I am an avid fan of ancient history. My livingroom is decorated in all
kinds of ancient Egyptian replicas. My favorite is a painting on papyrus
called "The Party".

A richly dressed husband and wife are seated before a table. Guests are
lined up with flowers and gifts for the host and hostess. Under the chair
of the lady is a female cat. (Mother cats were trained to sit under the
chair of the lady of the house.) On the arm of the other chair is a kitten.
The man is playing with the kitten using the sleeve of his robe.

They may have been worshipped, but they were also loved.

Hazel - Are you by any chance also a fan of mystery books, in this case
historical fiction? If so, have you read the "Amelia Peabody" series? - she
& her husband are Egyptologists at the turn of the century (give or take
several years - the series spans quite a few years), settings are usually in
Egypt - anywhere from Cairo, on up the Nile at various locations of pyramid
& tombsites, and their pet cat is Bastet. The books combine history/info,
mystery, and humor. Author - Elizabeth Peters. Cathy

I haven't read the books, but I will try one. I have a ton of factual books
on Egypt, but nothing fictional. I have been looking for something
new--thank you!

You're welcome. I just checked Amazon.com - they have a bunch of the titles
in this series, including "Crocodile on the Sandbank", "Curse of the
Pharaohs", "The Mummy Case", etc. Wish I could remember which was the very
first in the series, but can't. Libraries should have most of them, too.
Hope you enjoy them, if you decide to try them. If I remember correctly, the
author has a degree in Egyptology, so she knows her stuff. Cathy

And if you get a chance (if you are an avid reader) try to get a translated
copy of the Egyptian Book of the Dead. The thought processes were
astounding, very modern and gave me chills.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was never interested particularly in Egypt,
until I read the aforementioned mysteries. If I come upon the Egyptian Book
of the Dead, I'll check it out. Cathy
