Its as normal for a budigie as living in a cage and eating seeds out of
a plastic bowl. Normal behavior would be flying with other members of
a flock in Australia gathering seeds and raising a family.

What would you be muttering if you were locked alone in a cage with a
plastic bowl to eat from?

It's not unusual for solitary birds to talk to their own echo. My tiel
plays with a variety of toys that way; bells, cardboard tubes, the space
in back of the microwave, empty plastic pill bottles.

Sometimes she likes the sound of her own voice or her own reflection in
a mirror. It's playtime.
