mating behavior?

I have a one year old white-eyed conure. He has not been DNA sexed
(yet, we're doing that next month), but we've been calling him a "he".
He has a behavior that I'm curious about, but that none of my many books
about parrots discuss: when I sing to him he grunts and squeaks, pins
his eyes, fluffs up *some* of the feathers on his head (making a sort of
"hat"), spreads his tail feathers and his wings, and fluffs up the
feathers on his outer coverts. While he does this, he lowers his body
and leans toward me a bit. What is he doing? Is this mating behavior?
I was under the impression that conures don't reach sexual maturity
until they're about 2 years old.

Not sure when conures reach maturity, but my baby amazons will mock an
adult and do their strutting thing when enticed. He's just practicing for
you I think. While not sure about conure behavior, your -boy- sounds like
my -girl- senegal doing what I call her "skirt dance".

yeah, that sounds like the skirt dance to me. anyway, you should be

Sounds like my female BH pionus on the make, too. I've told her we're not
