grass parakeets

[Cougar Ridge Vineyards]

Hello, All! This is my first stab at newsgroupieness, so bear with
me. I bought a young splendid grass 'keet last weekend. She is
lovely, but there is a serious dearth of information about these
little jewels, at least in this neck of the weeds. I'd like to know
where they originated, what they eat in the wild, and whether they
really pair-bond, or if any guy will do. We are waiting for a male
(unrelated to her), but the babies are just out of the box and aren't
showing color yet. I'd love to hear from a grass 'keet fanatic or
two...they are just about the prettiest things I've ever seen!

Hi, I have two grass 'keets flying around at home. They are originally
from Australia where they live together with thousands of their kind.
Can you imagine a cloud of parakeets taking off from a grass plain? They
eat the grass seeds, by the way.
