Hi Everyone,

I have to decide between an Orange Wing Amazon (female) and a Hahn's
Macaw (unsexed) and a Senegal. All are equally tame, and all within
my budget. But I can't buy them all :-)

My main requirements are for a friendly, entertaining bird. Talking
is only a bonus. I would prefer the Amazon, for its greater potential
intelligence, but I'm concerned about their reputation for agression,
though I've heard females don't suffer from this.

I currently live with my parents who have a Blue-Crown conure, but
I'll be getting the new bird for myself when I move house next month.
The conure will be staying with my parents.

Any thoughts, anyone?

Hi Neil,

I have a Hahn's macaw and he is extremely intelligent, playful, cuddly and
affectionate. He is also curious and interested in things, can play by
himself for hours and enjoys his toys greatly, adores showers and is
insanely cute. Obviously I adore him.

And that's really the key. Get the bird you really love and who you think
really responds to you. The one who goes over to you rather than the one
who runs away.

But don't get a bird based on what people say and always wish you'd gotten
the other one. Because, trust me, the bird WILL KNOW and you will know
and you won't love/bond with your baby in the same way. NO bird should
EVER be second-best.

But I can say that life with a Hahn's Macaw is never dull!

I have the hunch your baby is this way because of you. smile..I
breed these little critters to find your words are perfect
description for the Hahns Macaw.

I have found the Hahns to take on the personailty of my
Hyaicnthines. My babies talked since they were weeks old however,
most all my babies do ...

Since all birds respond to different people in different ways, maybe it
would be better for you to see which of the birds responds to you in the
best way. Sometimes it is the match which makes a bird the right choice.
You seem to have already seen the birds. Can you spend a little more
time with them to see which one likes you best? Just a suggestion.
