Anyway, it's on it's own, a male, and seems to be ok. But having read a few
sites bout them, it says they should be kept in pairs. WOuld it be wise
putting another finch in the same cage, would they get on, and can two males
live together as im not wanting any babies.

If you don't want babies make sure you get another of the same gender,
otherwise you will sure as shootin' get babies.
Two Zebra males will usually only fight over girls. Societies and
Zebras are considered domesticated, and are usually very friendly and
social.
My Zebra seems to have paired with my society, although they are both
males, and there are two females also in the cage (a spice and an
orange weaver). Either they got tired of not understanding
mixed-species signals from the girls (whom they initially showed much
interest in), or they're convinced the other is a girl (I'm convinced
they're not gay as the Zebra has no sense in decorating the nest). At
least I've never seen them try the naughty bird dance.
