A friend of mine has a Quaker parrot which sleeps hanging upside down from
its perch, like a bat. I regard this as highly unusual behavior, but I
know nothing about parrots. Is this normal behavior for a Quaker?

There's no such thing as "normal behavior" for a Quaker. :)

My severe has slept in the following positions:

- upright on perch
- hanging on front of cage
- hanging in corner of cage
- lying on her back in someone's lap
- on my shoulder with her face planted in my ear
- on my shoulder leaned up against my head

I think if she were comfy, she would lie on her side and sleep too,
maybe in my lap as I watched TV or read or something.

Brian:
My female Quaker, "Miss Vida", would spend half of the day hanging by the
ceiling of the cage by one toe! and the other with her head stuck in an
empty roll of paper towel, making weird noises and screaming "boo!". Point
is Quakers are weird, that's what makes them so adorable.

Many thanks for the many interesting replies. It appears that all Quakers
are unique each in their own way, not just my friend's bird as I had
thought.

Mine has several little quirky positions. The funniest is when he puts
his back up against the corner of the cage, and with legs spread apart,
he grasps a cage bar with each foot...like he is posing for the
crucifixion. It is really nutty looking!

Lynn,

I would love to see a picture of that one. In fact all of these
sleeping positions would make a humerous web page.

HAHA!!!! SO true! My quaker sleeps in a basket, turned on its side that I've
attached inside the top of his cage. He has woven a nest around the opening.
He goes in and says, "Peek a boo! Covers! Covers!" when it's time for bed.
