pigeon problem... at my feeder

i have a problem. I have a nice bird feeder in my backyard. This summer
though. the pigeons started coming. now there are more than 25 pigeons.
they are chasing all of the little birds away, but it wouldnt be fair to
chase them off. they need to eat also. However, i have tried to make them
go away but they wont.. is there any way i can do this?
I have made the area around the bird feeder smaller, and put twigs so they
can't get in there. thank you.

I have put my backyard bird feeder inside a second hand parrot cage
which has spaces between the bars that allow in birds as large as jays
and cardinals but not adult pigeons. I suspect cages for dogs or cats
could do the same.
