About 2 hours ago. The female is really aggressive when it comes to keeping
the male out of the nesting box. Should they be separated if this
continues?

Hurrah! There are probably several more to come yet. They should be laid
every other day so expect one on Sunday. Don't worry if she is out of the
nest quite a bit before the next egg is laid.

That is odd. Does she let him feed her? Perhaps she's just in a really bad
mood. Is there lots of nice food for him to feed her? If not, she may be
annoyed that he's arriving empty beaked.

I wouldn't unless she starts really attacking him. He is meant to feed her
while she sits on the eggs and then feed her so she can feed the hachlings
and then, when they leave the nest, to feed them and show them what's
edible. After the eggs are laid she has a very easy life IMO :-)

It's not impossible for a female to cope on her own but it wouldn't be easy
for her as she normally only leaves the nest to poop not to feed. Even if
she hatches the eggs on her own, I doubt she'd be able to feed the babies.
So if you do have to separate them (and I hope you don't) then you would
probably have to do at least some of the feeding. If he hasn't started
feeding her in the next few days then it's probably time to check where to
buy the supplies for hand feeding and find someone who can show you how.

I forgot to say that's it's essential that they have a supply of water. The
male should bathe in the water and then go back to the nest to cool it down
and keep the humidity correct.

She does allow him to feed her. He sits at the door of the nest box and does
it. I think maybe she is just cranky today.

We got her as a baby and hand fed her ourselves. It was an experience.

Well I'd hate being cramped up inside a dark nest box not knowing what was going on outside if I was a bird that was meant to be flying about!

Hmph. They won't shit in the nest box, yet they can't take it upon themselves to hold the shit in till they are not above a piece of carpet, my shirt, etc etc!

She'll be fine then.

That's normal. She'll calm down once all the eggs are laid.

> We got her as a baby and hand fed her ourselves. It was an experience.

All those sleepless nights :-( It's amazing how much noise the little
blighters can make when they want feeding.
