I've been wondering about Mark Jones.... He was in poor health and

Doesn't he have a personal friend on the entire newsgroup? He was a

Attacking those whom he judged as fools was his stock in trade. That's

IIRC, toward the end of his sojourn at RORT, even his cohorts were

Linus, ol Stan has bitched about Florida not allowing him to park
everywhere for free but I don't think he "hates" Florida ----- after
all he keeps returning.
And another thing. He is paying good money if he is staying in
Florida State Parks. Those places aren't free or any where near free.
Although, in the winter they are usually cheaper than the privately
owned campgrounds.
I do not know what Canadians have to pay in National Parks. I seem to
remember that Stan like the extreme southern part of the state ----
Everglades area ------ there are a lot of camping opportunities in the
NP system down there and they are pretty cheap.
I do seem to remember that he did not like the Wal Marts not letting
him stay for free and he was bitching about the price of campgrounds.
If he would visit that area during the summer no one would say
anything if he overnighted in the Wal Mart ------ there ain't no one
there to say anything. VBG
Now during the winter when Stan likes to visit it is another matter.

You need to pay more attention. The following is a quote from Carl, in the

was a Muslim terrorist:
"Wouldn't you look rather foolish (to put it mildly) if it turns out that
the
Army Major committed these murders solely because he was pissed at the
military for wanting him to take on a duty assignment that he didn't want?
Might he have reacted the same way if he had been assigned to, say, Alaska

to do with his actions earlier today?
Mind you, I'm not defending or excusing him. But I do firmly believe that
this country should not give up the constitutionally required "innocent

In the end, it turned out that the Major was a terrorist, but it was Carl

Uh.............hello.................anybody home?
Janet mentions your German nationality because (I believe) you demonstrate
such a "Bosch" attitude.
During WWII, American GIs had a term for the Germans (mostly the German
soldiers), "Bosch". As related to me by friends and relatives, the term was
used alternatively with "Blockhead" and "Squarehead". It referred to the
notion, held by the GIs, that Germans were stubborn, set in their ways,
difficult to comprehend, and just plain dumb. We know of course that the
notion is wrong because of the scientific and philosophical discoveries
Germans have contributed to the world, never mind that many of those
discoveries were by German Jews.
Whenever folks (other than Germans) find themselves at odds with someone
they know to be of German ancestry their thoughts go to the notion of
"Bosch".
For many years after WWII Germans carried a certain amount of guilt because
of what their countrymen had perpetrated. Whenever folks (other than
Germans, and even sometimes Germans), find themselves at odds with a German
(or another German) their thoughts go to "Nazi".
Never mind that not all Germans are "Nazis".
Since the discovery that Muslims carried out the 9/11 terrorist attack and
since the discovery that Al Qaeda terrorists are Muslims there has become,
among some people, a belief that all Muslims are terrorists.
In my previous post I was suggesting that you were one of those "people" who
believed that "All Muslims are Terrorists" i.e., a member of the "All
Muslims are terrorists" club. I don't know whether that's true or
not..........that's why I asked.
If it's logical that "All Muslims are Terrorists" isn't it just as logical
that "all Germans are Nazis"?

since you sometimes seem to try to pass for an educated man, and in view
of your Alsace-Loraine family history, please note that
1. "Bosch" is a German manufacturer of electrical stuff, known for
superb quality, excellent customer service, and being far superior to
its British counterpart, Lucas.
2. "Boche" is what those questionable pretenders of military bravery
residing west of the Rhine river called the warrior neighbors on their
eastern border (Google is your friend) in the WW I and WW II area. It
is noteworthy that these same namecallers could only triumph after they
suckered those gullible Americans to bail them out -- and they have

Please note that:
I own a considerable number of tools manufactured by Bosch. They are among

Most "quality" fuel injection systems are made by Bosch.
For the new, highly rated, Ford diesel for pick-ups, Ford chose a Bosch
injection system.
But that doesn't alter the fact that American GIs referred to many Germans
as "Bosch" and it wasn't a complimentary term.

You're welcome. As the saying goes "Fool me once..."
No, Linus, I've never visited France. I have no interest in visiting
France.
I don't anticipate acquiring an interest in visiting France.
Some of my ancestors originated in France but the story I've heard is that
they left because of persecution.
They first traveled to Belgium and then spent several generations in
Britain. Becoming dissatisfied with Britain they traveled to America where
most of their progeny served, as far as I can determine, in every military
conflict in which this country has been involved.
Every one of the relatives with which I have, or have had, contact have
expressed a devout allegiance to the USA.
We are not French, German, British, Native American, or whatever other
nationality any of our ancestors were.
We are Americans.
Max
Good grief, Max, how un-PC of you and yours. (Be proud!)
When I became an American citizen, by choice rather than birth, I
pledged allegiance to one country, and one country only.
That was before the days of legal dual citizenship.

That's your loss Max. France is a beautiful country... Paris is

I see you're not interested in visiting the cemeteries in France, it
seems neither are the French people since they didn't follow Bush into

All the more reason to visit the American cemeteries of those killed
liberating Europe. Not only France but Belgium and England too.
They are places of historical importance to patriotic Americans.
Personally, I think the majority of the French are embarrassed that
their government caved in to the Germans so easily, that they became
puppets of the Germans and that millions collaborated.

They had a good deal going with Iraq, buying black market oil and
selling Saddam anything he could afford.

Their people were too important to risk defending their own country when
the Germans attacked in 1940. Although their Army was larger than
Germany's they surrendered in 6 weeks and started producing was
materials for the Germans.
Not only that but they formed a government of collaboration with the
Germans and fought against us in several locations.
*******************
When the Americans and British landed in several places, including
Casablanca, Oran, Tangiers, and others, the reaction of the French
colonial government was varied. At Oran, the USS Massachusetts fought a
gun duel with the dry-docked French battleship Jean Bart. Jean Bart,
immobile, was crippled by Massachusetts and not repaired until after the
war.
The first major Anglo-American operation of the war was commanded by
Dwight D. Eisenhower form his base at Gibraltar. While it was
successful, months of hard fighting against the Germans remained that
would test both the Anglo-American alliance and the green American
fighting men.
The stiff Vichy resistance cost the Americans 556 killed and 837
wounded. Three hundred British troops and 700 French soldiers were also
killed.

In Indo-China the Vichy French collaborated with the Japanese occupiers.

I saw something recently that disputes that opinion. It seems that some

different as was once suspected, and may even have 'mated.'
Bruce
Amazingly, the two species actually overlapped in Europe for a few
thousand years. So did they interbreed? While scientists allow that
there were probably plenty of random matings and hookups, any long-term
interbreeding is unlikely. And while there are many reasons for this,
the simplest are that a) they were probably physically repulsive to each
other, and b) they couldn’t meaningfully communicate. And also c) beer
wasn’t invented yet.
*******************
I can't believe that physical repulsiveness would enter into it after a
lengthy period of deprivation.
