I always stay at the Bayou Segnette State Park just across the river in
Westwego. Address: 7777 Westbank Expressway, Westwego, La 70094
Phone 504 736-7140
Nice size spaces, good security, 50 amp electric,no sewer but have dump
station.
Reasonable. Winter rates 3 days for the price of 2>Any suggestions on RV parks

Doris,

Bayou Segnette State Park is probably the closest.

Avoid all RV parks on US90 (Chef Menteur Hwy). They are fenced-in
parking lots with RVs that look like they have been there for years
and could not move if they wanted to. Not a neighborhood you'd want
to take a walk in at night.

Happy RVing,

Bayou Segnette, a wonderful park. Large shaded sites, friendly personnel,
and tons of armadillos running around.

There are several parks that appear to be nice off of I10 (I think it is I10
@ Hwy 90 but I'm working from lousy memory) in Slidell (a suburb) including
a KOA. That bad part is that you are at least 30 minutes from downtown and
the French Quarter. Bayou Segneitte (sp?) is nice, as other posters have
suggested. I prefer St. Bernard State Park - it is less crowded, also has
no sewer but has a dump station. I would avoid any parks in New Orleans
proper. Also, we went to have a lookee at the KOA in Kenner (a suburb)
recently and it was the most cramped KOA I have ever seen BUT it was very
clean and appeared well cared for. I would not stay there because of the
closeness of sites.

Doris,

The Slidell, LA KOA is, IMO, the best of the several alternatives.

The helpful staff will arrange transportation to the French Quarter if you
wish. They also can arrange tours of NO with the same firm. Not cheap, but
nor too bad either.

I recommend the swamp tours they can also arrange for you.

If you don't mind the drive, from the KOA it is a short (and scenic) drive to
Hwy 90. If you take 90 West it will take you to NO via Chef Mentour (sp?)
which is also 90. The drive is scenic until you reach the outskirts of NO
where it becomes a little scary for a country boy like me. The bridges are
narrow on 90 so if you meet an 18 wheeler on the bridge you may suck a few
holes in the seat cover... I sure did. ;=)

Enjoy,
Butch
