I am trying to tow a 2400 lb trailer with a 1993 Lincoln Town Car with air
suspension. We are having trouble levelling the trailer while towing and
were wondering if this is because the air suspension is trying to level the
car and trailer. Should we turn the air suspension system off when towing?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Martin

No. you have to determine how much to raise or lower the hitch then buy a
shank for your hitch receiver either to raise or lower it. Be sure to use an
equalising setup. It should work very well especially since you are well within
weight parameters of the Lincoln. Stu

If it's like a Lincoln Navigator, there's a little procedure you go through.
Read the owner's manual about towing.

There is no need for an equalizing hitch when towing a 2400# trailer with
that vehicle. As a matter of fact, you could damage the air suspension
system by attempting such. The trailer may be connected with the motor
running or not. When you start the engine, the vehicle will level itself.
However, DO NOT remove the hitch weight unless the motor is running. As you
lighten the load, the vehicle will automatically adjust it's height. If the
motor is not running, the excess pressure in the system will cause your
suspension to extend all the way out to the upper stops. When you start the
motor, the vehicle will not level itself. If you try to drive under these
circumstances you can easily break the upper stops off of the suspension.

The vehicle can handle this trailer with no problem. I towed a 1,200#
enclosed trailer with two 700# Harleys plus misc. gear for many miles behind
my old 1990 Lincoln Mark VII. The air suspension will automatically level
the car. If the trailer is not sitting level at that time, you will need to
make an adjustment on your hitch height. Just remember that when you
unhitch the trailer, your ENGINE MUST BE RUNNING. The air suspension has
pumped up the capacity of the rear end. If you remove the hitch weight
without the engine running, the air suspension will lift the rear of the car
to the limit of the shocks. When you start the engine, the car may not come
back down to level. If you drive it this way, you will break the suspension
limiters and subsequently have one very large bill to pay. DO NOT try
towing with the air suspension turned off and DO NOT use a load equalizing
hitch on this setup.
