Trying to convert to RV for retirement. Would like to know of address
of person or persons capable of converting a semi tractor with double
wide walk-in sleeper into an RV of approx 25 ft. Frame must be
stretched, that I know, but am unable to locate manufacturer of shell
and body for such conversion. Thanks for any and all information. Ken

Try going to http://www.google.com/advanced_search and looking for outfits that
do custom-built sleepers for trucks.

Also, try visiting truckstops and talking to those truckers who have
custom-built sleepers.

Finally, try to find out when major trucking shows will take place and visit
one or more of them. I'm thinking there's a big one in Louisville each
February, and one in Dallas (month unknown), but my memory may be faulty.

Hope this helps!

I know some folks who have done it to FL60s and FL70s. Send me a personal
e-mail if you think this is the info you need and I'll get you in touch with a
friend who made his FL60 into a mini motorhome with an air hitch for the 40'
fiver.

Both have inventory like what you want.

Just curious, why go to the trouble to convert a rig and not buy a class A.
I have looked into the same thing, but I haul a race trailer.

There are those among us who prefer the home-like feeling (not to mention the
inside storage) of a 5W or TT. Let's face it: Even a Multi-million dollar big
bus conversion has a steering wheel in the living room. There are also many
more floor plan choices available for a trailer than a motorhome. The
gentleman probably wants to make his truck into a little camper so he'll have
the best of both worlds. Used full-sized tractors can be bargains and they
require infinitely less maintenence than a class A.
Hope this answers your question.

Or he could do what we have done, use the tractor to pull a 40' electronics
van (basically a furniture van with doors in the right side and back) into a
camper. The front 20' or so is dedicated to living quarters ant the rear is
a garage complete with ramps and a 24kvw diesel genset plus tool boxes
inside. plenty of room and storage space, does take a large site though.

This is the key. I know a guy who travels the hotrod show circuit
selling obsolete throttle and speedo cables. He pulls a HUGE
exhibition trailer with a medium duty truck he converted himself.
He told me it was the only thing he could find that would tow the
trailer and eat him up on maintenance. Here's a picture of the rig:

Since used small tow trailers are very cheap, this is a cheap
conversion to implement.

Why would he want something that would eat him up on maintenance. Seem like
the opposite would be desirable.
