If she were, real unemployment would not be >16%.
Employers would not be relocating offshore.
Real taxes would not be going up.
We would be winning in Afghanistan.
Iran would probably face effective sanctions.
Her approval rate would be above 65%.
And, best of all, the Liberals would all be in the process of moving to
Canada.

Matt,
to paraphrase more accurately: "You can't vote against Sarah Palin and
call yourself a *smart* woman."
And pigs would fly...
Seriously, what would be different today if Obama hadn't been elected?
Palin would be VP, McCain POTUS, same crop of congresscritters, same
dismal economy courtesy of years of ReaganBushClintonBush, same
albatross of Afghanistan and Iraq. Different pig, same lipstick.
Enjoy the day...
>(I also suspect that you didn't actually understand what she said.)
You men who drool over Sarah Palin either didn't actually hear what
she said, or are so blinded by her beauty that you don't know the
difference between Iran and Iraq either?

Gee, that sounds like sexual jealousy. Just because you are over the

I almost choked when I heard her give her reason for allowing further
settlements on Palestinian land:

If she is fair and equitable I assume she would approve of Mexican
settlements on Arizona and Texas lands because the Mexican population
is growing so fast?

With the threat of a presidential veto blocking asinine legislation, I
strongly suspect that Congress would have wasted time on cap and trade
(an economic disaster in the making, if there ever was one), the robbing
of Medicare to insure illegal aliens, stimulus/porkulus that was a total
waste of $ 8 Billion. We most likely would have seen a major push to
stimulate the economy and employment by cutting taxes and providing real
incentives for the few remaining productive members of our society. We
would not have our POTUS going around the world, denigrating America,
and making us the laughing stock of Europe. We would be supporting
competent generals in Afghanistan with the resources they ask for, and
we would not have an AG bent on destroying our intelligent services and
giving terrorists a forum. We would not have a totally incompetent head
of Homeland Security, we would have had H1N1, if needed, and we would
not have a Health Secretary who can't make up her mind at what age boobs
ought to be XRayed. We most certainly wouldn't have a tax cheat and
inside trader for SecTreas, economic advisors as stupid as Larry Summers

Congressional supervision, making major policy decisions.

That's the stupidest thing I've ever read!
So you are saying that it is only OK for small countries with growing
populations to setup settlements on another's land? I guess Mexico was
a bad example for you, and you would prefer Haiti.
Population density in Israel has risen from 43 persons per square
kilometer in 1948 to 260 today.
Texas - 79.6/sq mi (30.75/km2)
Arizona-55.8/sq mi (21.54/km2)
*********************
Statistics may need updating but the difference in population density is
obvious.
LZ
Actually, your analogy is backwards. Telling Isreal that they can't build
settlements is much closer to telling Texans that they can't build
settlements in Texas. Israel won that land, fair and square, in a war that
was not started by them, but which they won. They have every right to the
land, and should be, not just permitted, but encouraged, to do whatever they
want on it.
And, for the record, there is no such thing as Palestinian land, the land
belongs to whatever country puts it's flag there.

>
Thanks Don, I had missed that one. You could be on to something here.
Maybe we could solve the problem of illegal immigration by returning all the
land we took from Mexico to them.
If I didn't know better I would think that JerryD was kidding when he
used a video of yet another Palin screw up as proof of her intelligence, but
her fans live in a wonderful fantasy land.
For those who haven't been following the situation in Israel: Obama is
continuing a long tradition of screwing up in that area. While he's been
talking tough on the settlements Israel has been ignoring him. Andrew
Sullivan comments on this and Palin's comments in his blog:
http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2009/11/palin-on-israel.html
To understand why Palin would say something so nutty you have to
understand the bizzare religious environment she lives in. She's not talking
about natural population growth. She's talking about large numbers of Jews
moving to Israel in the coming days, weeks and months. Much of this can be
traced to things she learned from the Assemblies of God. She had an Israeli
flag in the Governor's office for a reason.

TB
TB
Yes, we get the drift that you don't have a clue what you're talking
about, but we knew that already.
Let's look at "innumerable Czars", for example. Based on media reports
calling a particular presidential appointment a "czar":
Bill Clinton 1993–2001 7 czars
George Bush 2001–2009 47 czars
Barack Obama 2009– 32 czars
Hey, Clinton and Obama togther haven't reached Dubya's total.
And it wasn't just the dreaded ghost of the non-existent "liberal press".
In fact, Bill O'Reilly of Faux News recommended that even more czars be
appointed (fair use quotations):
March 13, 2002
> A presidential counsel should be appointed immigration czar and clean
> out the INS once and for all.
October 21, 2001
> Talking Points continues to ask for the appointment of a charity czar to
> coordinate all the money and organizations. (O'Reilly repeated the call
> on June 11, 2002)
October 4, 2001
> Yeah, there should be somebody appointed by the federal government, a
> disaster relief victims family czar, to do it.
Source: http://mediamatters.org/research/200909080038
Now Faux News has decided that"czar" sounds communistic, so therefore
it's a good way to attack Obama and suck in some viewer$hip from the
Republican cult members.
The 32 czar count above is actually based on an diatribe by Faux News'
chief fruitcake Glenn Beck. Beck conveniently overlooked the fact that 8
of the "czars" are actually congress-approved appointees and 15 of the
"czars" were appointed to fill advisory positions he inherited from the
Bush/Cheney/Rove misadministration (fair use quotation).
> # Fifteen of the "czarships" Beck lists, including seven that are in
> neither of the above categories, were created by previous
> administrations. (In some cases, as with the "economic czar," the actual
> title – in this case, chairman of the president’s economic recovery
> advisory board – is new, but there has been an official overseeing the
> area in past administrations. In others, as with the special envoy to
> Sudan, the position is old but the "czar" appellation is new.)
> # In all, of the 32 positions in Beck’s list, only eight are
> Obama-appointed, unconfirmed, brand new czars.
Source: http://www.factcheck.org/2009/09/czar-search/
And perhaps we should remember that the third member of the
Bush/Cheney/Rove misadministration was Karl Rove himself, Dubya's
"Domestic Policy Czar".

I have seen no indication that he is smart. We have only tales that
he was a scholar in college. No proof, not one word of agreement from
his contemporaries in either college or university. No grade
transcripts, no evidence of Law Review (I have heard he was given the
position, not earned) He certainly was not published, which is
unusual for the head of LR.
He seems to have NO understanding of the Constitution of the US. I
base that on the number of acts that, were they to be challenged in a
court would/will be tossed. I suspect his health care bill will be
challenged and tossed.
He is a good speaker (although shrill) when fed the words but his
ability to think on his feet is horrible and he would have scored
poorly in any moot court or trial competition. His halting style of
speech drives me bananas and I have to turn him off.

Well, heck, by this logic it's ok to take the tax dollars the

question in a vacuum. It always has been, and always will be, a question of
which of the two candidates do you prefer.
Placing her against any liberal in the country, I would choose Sara Palin.
Placing her against Ronald Reagan (if he was still available) I would choose
Reagan. She falls some where on the continuum as better than any Democrat
we have had in the last century, better than a few of the Republicans, and
not as good a choice as a couple other Republicans.
If I was giving her a grade (the way she gave Obama a 4 out of 10) I would
give her some where in the 7.5 range, and while I would prefer a 10,
sometimes you have to take what you can get. In the last election, I would
have put Fred Thompson a lot higher than her, and would have settled for
Rudy (or as it turned out, I would have settled for McCain rather than
0bama, even though I really disliked McCain).
In the end, while I would prefer someone with a little more seasoning, and
someone who has worked on national and international issues a little more, I
remain convinced that virtually any intelligent conservative/libertarian,
who is willing to surround him/her self with good advisors, and listen to
them, could do the job. And that includes Sara.

LOL, the process was set up to deliberately exclude the companies are
producing the natural gas the pipeline will carry. Which is really back
asswards when you look at the economics of the situation. And it gets
weirder than that. Here's a pretty complete summary:
http://www.commondreams.org/headline/2008/10/26
A couple of snippets:
"Despite Palin's boast of a smart and fair bidding process, the AP found
that her team crafted terms that favored only a few independent pipeline
companies and ultimately benefited the winner, TransCanada Corp.
And contrary to the ballyhoo, there's no guarantee the pipeline will ever be
built; at a minimum, any project is years away, as TransCanada must first
overcome major financial and regulatory hurdles.
In interviews and a review of records, the AP found:
* Instead of creating a process that would attract many potential
builders, Palin slanted the terms away from an important group - the global
energy giants that own the rights to the gas.
* Despite promises and legal guidance not to talk directly with
potential bidders, Palin had meetings or phone calls with nearly every major
candidate, including TransCanada.
* The leader of Palin's pipeline team had been a partner at a lobbying
firm where she worked on behalf of a TransCanada subsidiary. Also, that
woman's former business partner at the lobbying firm was TransCanada's lead
private lobbyist on the pipeline deal, interacting with legislators in the
weeks before the vote to grant TransCanada the contract. Plus, a former
TransCanada executive served as an outside consultant to Palin's pipeline
team.
* Under a different set of rules four years earlier, TransCanada had
offered to build the pipeline without a state subsidy; under Palin, the
company could receive a maximum $500 million."
"In January 2007, Palin spoke the first of at least two times to Vice
President Dick Cheney, the Bush administration's point person on energy
issues, according to calendars obtained by the AP through a public records
request. Cheney's staff pressed the Palin administration to draw in the
energy companies, said current and former state officials involved in those
discussions.
As the governor's approach unfolded in the spring of 2007, there were signs
it was skewed in a different direction.
Palin said she saw problems if the firms that own the gas also owned the
pipeline. They could manipulate the market or charge prohibitive fees to
smaller exploration firms, discouraging competition.
Several important requirements in the legislation were unpalatable to the
big oil companies. In the talks under Murkowski, the firms asked that the
rates for the gas production tax and royalties be fixed for 45 years; Palin
refused to consider setting rates for that long.
Under the Palin process, the pipeline firms had an advantage because they
simply pass along taxes paid by oil and gas producers.
Oil company officials warned lawmakers they wouldn't participate under those
terms. Still, in a near unanimous vote, the Legislature passed the Alaska
Gasline Inducement Act in May 2007, generally as written by Palin's pipeline
team.
Once the state issued its request for proposals on July 2, 2007, the level
of communication between the government and potential bidders was supposed
to decrease drastically, so that no one would be accused of gaining unfair
advantage. State lawyers advised public officials to keep their distance,
and bidders were told to submit questions on a Web site where answers could
be seen by all.
Several of the state's gas line team members interviewed by AP said they had
no contact with possible bidders. But Palin had conversations with
executives at most of the major potential bidders during that period,
according to her calendars.
While the calendars don't detail what was discussed, the documents indicate
that the pipeline was the subject of the discussions, or that the
conversations occurred immediately after a briefing with Palin's pipeline
team.
When she was in Michigan for a National Governors Association summit in late
July 2007, Palin and her team met executives from Williams Co., a pipeline
builder that ended up not bidding.
"The purpose of the meeting was to more fully understand the details of the
project, which we were still evaluating at the time," company spokeswoman
Julie Gentz said in a statement.
TransCanada's Palmer described communication with state officials as
nonexistent.
According to the governor's official schedule, however, Palin called
TransCanada President and CEO Hal Kvisle on Aug. 8, 2007. Asked about that
call, Palmer said it was to clarify the bidding process.
Griffin said that in keeping with legal guidance, Palin never spoke in any
of the meetings about the competitive bidding process.
By the Nov. 30 submission deadline, there were five applications. But the
state disqualified four for failing to satisfy the bill's requirements.
That left TransCanada.
The Canadian giant had been pursuing an Alaska pipeline since at least 2004,
when the company negotiated a deal with Rutherford that the state ended up
shelving. While the details remain confidential, six people familiar with
the terms told the AP that TransCanada was willing to do the work then
without the large state subsidy.
In testimony this July before the state Senate, Rutherford herself confirmed
such a willingness, but described the 2004 deal as presenting a different
set of trade-offs. A state lawyer warned her not to say more, lest she
violate a confidentiality agreement.
Others who reviewed the deal think much of the $500 million will be wasted
money.
"Most definitely TransCanada got a sweetheart deal this time," said
Republican Sen. Bert Stedman, who voted against the TransCanada license.
"Where else could you get a $500 million reimbursement when you don't even
have the financing to build the pipeline?""
All of that and the Denali project is still on the table as a viable
proposal. Much is yet to be decided and AK could easily end up paying a
large chunk of change for a project that didn't happen. Here's another take
on the situation

As it tries to present both sides of the issue I expect that LZ will only
see one of them.

IOW you're not prepared to twist yourself into a pretzel trying to
explain the hyper-partianship of Palin = Good/Obama = Bad when they're doing
things that really aren't all that different.
TB
While the details remain confidential, six people familiar with
> the terms told the AP that TransCanada was willing to do the work then

Who are the six people who told the AP? Alaskan Democrats?
I note that that AP assigned 11 people to look for errors in Palin's
book and only 2 to read the 2000 page health care bill.
Another obvious indicator that the left-wingers are scared shitless of
Palin running for anything and are doing their best
to smear her at every opportunity.
You can cut back on the volume of your bullshit. Even a little bit of
the smell carries a long distance. Commondreams.org is less
reliable than Pravda under Stalin.

LOL . You didn't finish reading my post, did you.

LOL, cherrypick any poll you like. They all same the same thing, "She's
not even in the running". She's gone from being a politician to being a
professional victim. I expect to see her run for office in 2012, but only to
refresh her standing as a professional victim. She has to sell more books to
live the lifestyle to which she wishes to become accustomed, but she's
clearly not into long term employment. Palin is the best thing Obama has
going for him. Best case scenario she makes Republicans look like a bunch of
idiots by association. Worst case scenario she runs on a third party ticket.
Either way it's a win/win for Obama.
Have you read her book? It's a hoot. Everything is God's will, except
for the parts she didn't like, which were the fault of mean nasty people.
Absolutely nothing is her fault. I expect we'll see entire websites devoted
to nothing but the easily proven whoppers she tells. For those who are
interested it's easy to find them by the boat load.

Hey, read as much or as little as you like; no one is holding a gun to

Mind if I save that quote?

Or even Sarah Plain?

Only a couple, if any refineries PLUS, IDIOT, the transportation

You should quit while you're ahead.
LOL, yet more disinformation Chuck. The most expensive one she filed
herself. Her numbers are bullshit. And, she was NOT cleared of all charges.

I did.
">Not in comparison to any particular individual who might currently be
in consideration."
Who did I mention that was in consideration to be president? Obama's
second term?
">Just: Do you think she would make a good president?"
I gave the reasons she would be, didn't I?
She wouldn't surround herself with known terrorists and tax cheats.
She would be better for the country for that reason alone.
LZ
You should quit while you're behind, but we know that isn't going to
happen. While it's entirely plausible that you met pipeline workers headed
to AK, or any other state; even under the most optomistic forecast
absolutely no one is going to be turning a wrench on AK's natural gas
pipeline until sometime well into the next decade.

How many will we get if we plug in your name and "S&M sex club Tucson".
From the article:
"Now, in fairness, by entering into a plea bargain settlement agreement
with the state, and agreeing to promptly repay the
travel allowances, Palin was able to have the official record read that
there was no abiding ethics violation, but the simple fact is if there
was no wrongdoing, she would not have had to enter an agreement and
repay the funds."
So the very same thinking applies to Clinton and his confession that he
committed perjury?
So why are Democrats still denying this simple fact?
