I have an A&E awning with the roll down/roll up lever stuck. The awning
worked fine till we washed the trailer. While the awning was rolled up we
unhooked the legs from the trailer and swung them out to wash behind them.
We had a difficult time replacing them, really had to lift hard to get them
back in the bracket. Then tried to roll down the awning and we cannot get
the little lever to move. If anyone has had this problem I'd appreciate
knowing how they resolved it.

Simple- just unlatch the front leg at the bottom- swing it
out, flip the lever to "roll out", replace the bottom foot, and your
set.
When you unlatched the bottom and moved the arm out, you put
another fraction of a turn on the ratchet, and by moving the bottom
out again, you will relieve this bind.

Happens all the time, to just about every brand awning.

What you've done is to twist the awning a bit more than it would have
had it been lowered normally, putting pressure on the lever.

I would suggest a ladder and simply use physical force to turn the
awning roller slightly so that it releases the pressure on the lever.
You can then, while twisting the roller, flip the lever.

This has happened to me regularly when my awning is down. Same
principal... awning rolled a bit too much. Not a big deal.

I think you have it in a bind. Try taking the arms back off the side of the
trailer and flip the lever while they are off. I bet that will fix it.

Sometimes "Been There, Done That" is really magic. One of the great things
about this newsgroup, despite the fact that it sometimes gets bogged down in
strange ways, is that there are a lot of knowledgeable people out there,
whether their knowledge comes from having to fix other peoples' problems or
their own.

My problem is different. When I go to roll it up, it it very hard to pull
the lever to the down position. Sometimes I have to rotate the barrel
slightly. Never had this problem new, and it is only 8 months old. Oil?

Thanks for the answers. I tried lifting the leg and still had the problem,
but from what everyone was saying it was just bound up ... so I had my wife
stick a 2 foot pipe over the lever and pull (I don't do ladders) ... now it
works even easier than before. I was about to hitch it and go to camping
world (The local shop only sells RVs on the weekend ... parts and service is
closed).

Thanks again

Jeff, make sure you put the lever in the roll down position before you
disconnect the leg from the camper. Or better yet, open the awing to
wash behind the arm. You were very luck not to break the lever when
you used a pipe to pull it down. It's just a cheap piece of alluminum
which is very easy to break or strip.

Here we have a fine example of problem & resolution -- Will this seemingly
innocent exchange of on-topic information lead to insults, invective,
flames and other e-mayhem? Tune in to next week's episodes of "As the
Wheel Turns"...

Try NOT rolling it out all the way. Leave a tiny bit slack and it'll work
every time.

I had the same experience when my Winnebago was new. I also had removed and
replaced the leg of the awning while it was in the rolled up position. I
worked on it for hours and never solved it. A call to A&E was of no help. The
problem resolved itself somehow. I drove the coach after the awning had locked
up and the next time I tried to move the lever, it worked just fine!

These postings have alerted me to the problem of getting the rollup mechanism
bound up and the means to release or relieve the tension to allow the lever to
move.

Thanks all.
