I share my opinions about other topics such as auto mechanics,
politics, religion, cooking, beer making, etc. in other groups
regarding those particular topics. I find very little info about
"Rec.Outdoors.RV-Travel" in this forum. I find more information in
other forums where participants have a genuine interest in and
discussion of topics that are relevant to recreation, outdoors
adventure and RV travel. I wish the same could be said of this google
group.
Perhaps this google group should be renamed "Debate any subject, flame
our participants for sharing their opinions, and sometimes discuss
Rec.Outdoors.RV-Travel".
Thanks for reading my post and have a great day!

Prediction: Over the next few hours you will become "educated" as to what
this forum is about, and if you continue to argue your point, by the end of
the day you will be blocked by about 99% of the regulars here.
The solution starts at home, use kill files and kill anything that
starts with the Off Topic line. Never post to one of those threads and
ignore them.

As I said to the last person to post this whine (just two days ago):
If you don't want to read off topic stuff, just filter "OT" - problem
solved.
If you want to read more on topic RV related stuff, start a conversation.
If you just want to bitch and whine, take it up with your wife - nobody here
cares.

First of all it is NOT a Google Group. It's been a Usenet newsgroup for
well over a decade. Google picks up Usenet groups for the sake of those
who can't comprehend that there was something in existence prior to the
World Wide Web's popularity.
Second, many of us have been here for years, posting RV-related material
and just hanging around as friends often do. We enjoy sharing things
with each other and seeking different opinions on world matters and
other things not RV related. It's been like this forever and many of us
don't appreciate newbies handing us our hats for the way we conduct our
friendships.
Third, if you don't like this group, I respectfully suggest that you
Google someplace more to your liking. There are various moderated RV
forums around. The moderators make sure the postings are on topic. They
might be more to your liking.
Good-bye.

First off, this isn't a "google group". This is Usenet, a service the
long predated even the internet. The google guys probably hadn't even
been born yet. Google provides an archive and a mediocre web
interface but that's it.
Second and more important, your attitude is the very antithesis of any
freedom-loving American. "I don't like what you say so shut up".
Your choice is to ignore what you don't like or leave. In the case of
this group, you have a powerful tool to help you ignore what you don't
like in the form of Usenet reader agents with good filtering or to use
the traditional term, "killfile". You will, of course, have to get
off Google and get a good reader. Agent is good but not free. Mozilla
Thunderbird is both free and good.
If you find it unpleasant to ignore things you don't like, as do I,
then you simply filter those things out. The Usenet equivalent of
sticking your fingers in your ears. And people who generate that
trash are also filtered, known as "plonking". The Usenet version of
walking away from an asshole you don't like.
Amazingly enough, from where I sit this group's content IS mostly
about RVs. I filter out all political crap and quickly killfile
people who generate it. I also filter whiners such as yourself which
is why you'll feel the plonk right after I post this.
Grow up, quit whining, get a good Usenet reader and start a thread
about RVs. Or just leave. Doesn't matter a bit to me and probably
most everyone else here.

Why would you filter someone because they repsonded to a legit question with

To start with, the reason he loves it so much, is that he is the place he

I totally agree with you and your comments. I have a question, could
you please let me know the various sites you connect with which
discuss beer, auto mechanics i.e. maybe diesel, RV travel, and RV's in
general. Thank you for supporting my beliefs that specific topic
groups should keep to the subject. There are plenty of them that do.
Again, thank you for your comments, tdabney...@prodigy.net
If you check www.wolfswords.com under the motorhome then newsgroup link, you
will find information on how I filter and eliminate such nonsense.
I have no desire to participate in another rule-bound forum, normally

Anybody who claims to "love" a tow dolly either hasn't used one, or is
too stupid to live. Some people tolerate a tow dolly for various
reasons, but nobody sane loves crawling around in the rain trying to
strap a car to a tow dolly. They also don't "love" muscling a tow dolly

Welcome to 'usenet', B. Same as it ever was...
I absolutely agree...the entire NG needs to be monitored in some way...I
tried filtering the "OT" stuff but finds it kills some stuff I have on other

OK everyone, here's the deal.

We know exactly what we do and we've been happy doing it long before you
showed up.
No one is holding a gun to your head keeping you here. If you are
unhappy with the group, you can unsubscribe.
Janet, getting a little tired of the whining.
Either you are a troll or naive. I will assume the latter.
As you can see by now, your post probably won't get very far
iun fixing this group. There are those of us who agree with you,
but we are definately in the minority.
Contrary to some poster beliefs here, this group wasn't like
this "forever". If you want to look it up, there was a charter
posted in this group on June 13, 1995 . Most of the regular
posters followed it for some quite some time. Over the years
it has changed much like many of the usenet groups have.
However, it has been like this for longer than most of the
current regular posters have known about the group.
On the other hand, even those who post much of the noise
also post reasonable information as well, so it is valuable to
stick around. Filtering what you can will help. Unfortunately
some of those who recommend filters are the same ones
who don't always use [OT] or OT: in their off topic postings.
As for the name of the group, a more accurate name would be:
rec.outdoors.rv-travel.campfire-conversations. It's the community
of people with a commonality of RVs that sits around bragging,
boasting, and arguing a variety of subjects. If you have something
to discuss about RVs, bring it up. Many of them can be helpful.

Janet, waxing nostalgic.
What we have here at RORT, is a wide open forum where we allow any
and all subjects other than out and out SPAMMING. We have a vertual
campfire here where we gather and discuss RV subjects and whatever
else comes to mind. Just like YOU would do when you pull up a chair
to a campfire and talk to your friends in a campground.
Tell us this Jimi and "B." When you are around a campfire do you only
talk about RV subjects such as your busted black tank and make sure
that you and your friends NEVER talk about anything else? Do you have
some dumbass nanny moderator at the campfire to make sure that those
tender hearing instruments on the sides of your head are not violated?
HOLY CATS! How boring would that be?
(With all due respect to the holy religion of Kevin's cats and my own
kitty)
That's the way it's been for the last 10 years I have been here on
this Forum,
Jimi and "B" And THAT IS the way it's going to stay. People drift
through here
every year and try to change that to THEIR Rules. We don't have Rules
other
than NO SPAM. Get it?
You have the choice of joining in with the way it is here or moving
on. Your choice.
We would prefer that you stay and contribute. Just know that we are
not going
to put up with your WHINE and will post right down your throat every
time you
try to change that which WILL NOT BE CHANGED.
Suggestion: If you want to join in here other than a few little posts
you have posted
thus far, why not tell us about yourselves, where you hail from, what
youir RV is,
where you travel and what your REAL NAME IS other than some fake or
partial
moniker. The regulars here do not agree on everything. (How boring
would that be)
But, have a VAST amount of all aspects of RVing including equipment
and personal
aspects of RVing from insurance to financial. Many decades of
experience IS RIGHT
HERE. Those people, however are multi-smart about more than how to
install a new

They are jewels in this Rough RORT.

In fairness to Will, although he has sold his most recent RV, he has

And yet, visitors come into this group all the time, don't like what
they hear about tires here, and get all pissy. Why do they show up in

I've got a good friend with a MH. He bought it used 6 years ago, and
has never checked the DOT codes. He was annoyed when I mentioned it.

It's kinda funny how this stuff works. My brother thought I was full of
it when I started talking tires. I was visiting my nephew last summer
and he was showing me his new/used TT. The tire sidewalls were badly
cracked, so I gave him the tire lecture, including a description of what
happens when a tire blows. He nearly laughed at me, but bought the new
tires anyway.
Last week my brother called and thanked me for the tire talk. It seems
that his son, my nephew, was following a friend on their vacation. This
friend has a nearly identical trailer to Chadd's, and one of his tires
blew out. Chadd watched in horror as the trailer started shedding parts,
first plastic, then woods, and plumbing, and wiring, etc........
They both believe me now.

Lots of people get all hissy when you mention something that could be
dangerous. I remember a guy at Ajo who had enough cash to buy a new

all the way from Quebec to Ajo. He had managed to screw up his

There are a lot of people here who have been returning on a daily basis
for the past 10 years. We do that because we like what we find here. If
you don't like what you find here, I would suggest you go elsewhere.

Use the words "like", "enjoy", "prefer", or any other word that fits.
Using a tow dolly is still the biggest pain-in-the-ass venture I've ever
seen associated with RVing. You couldn't pay me a large enough amount of
money to cause me to voluntarily subject my body to the bullshit of
dealing with a tow dolly.
Lon, who shouldn't attempt rational dialog with someone as stupid as Max
Greene.
There are a lot of people who put up with all the crap because they
see some value in some of the posts. There are a lot of people who
do as you say and just leave because of all the crap.
About 12 years ago this was setup as a place to go where RV related
discussions could occur freely, along with a charter to try to keep
it
from becoming what it has become. It was done properly with
discussions and a vote. Of course this was done at about the end of
a time when the internet usegroups were created and operated done
in a proper manner. That seemed to change about the time AOL
connected bunches of people to the usenet groups.
One solution to all this would be to setup a subgroup maybe named
rec.outdoors.rv-travel.campfire or rec.outdoors.rv-travel.bs for all
the
misc chat that accompanies the apparent need to socialize in a more
general way than just the topics this goup is supposed to discuss.
It's far easier to do than most think. And definately better than
the
solutions demanded by certain people here (love it or leave it,
filter
what you don't like, ignore those posts) And it would minimize these
postings that complain about how the group isn't what it is supposed
to be.
Another way to handle this would be to rewrite the charter to just be
a community of RV enthusiasts who want to talk about anything they
feel like then vote on it. Then you can point to this in the future
to get
rid of people who don't like it.
Jerry

I've been here since 1995 and I can tell you with much certainty that
the AOL users were not the ones who made the changes. The majority of
the flame-warriors and OT posters are/were not AOL users.
Your supposition was baseless and prejudicial and I believe you either
owe AOL users an apology or proof of your statement.
