Why in the heck doesn't someone make aluminum folding lawn chairs anymore?
They are nice and light and don't rust like the heavy steel ones. The only
ones I can find are the very short beach chairs and some of the old ones on
eBay sold as "retro" furniture. We always kept 2 in the back of the pickup
handy for impromptu picnics when traveling.

We are still using 2 of the web strap, round tube, aluminum folding chairs
we bought in 1975 from K-Mart at 2 for $5.00 I found rolls of webbing at a
flea market for $1.00 per roll that I keep in a black bag to keep the light
off. They have probably been re-webbed 30 or more times!! We buy and try
new chairs and go back to these clunkers because they are light & sit good!!

With the entire internet in front of you how hard can it be to find
aluminum folding lawn chairs?

The Target chair is steel. The other company's chairs appear to be
aluminum. Does a steel chair weigh so much that it's a big deal?

It makes a big difference if you are going half way across the campground to
a social and are carrying your chair, a couple of drinks and snacks to share
like many of us do!!!

In that case an alternate solution is to get one of these. One person
could easily take the chairs, a couple of drinks, snacks to share
and the kitchen sink half way across the campground.

TB did include a link to this site...I just refined it to drill down
to the aluminum chairs...a bit pricey, but they are aluminum...

Market dried up?

Webbing kits and hardware are available online to refurbish older
chairs.

Interesting question so I did some looking. It looks like high
strenght steel bag chairs have taken over the bottom of the market.
Aluminum bag chairs are more expensive. If this is what you are
looking for the price might be your answer:

That site came off this one:

happy looking!

First link is steel frame, did not check second. If you read the
details aluminum frames are hard to find.

Got one, they are tricky beasts as the wheels are inside the frame so
they tend to tip.

As far as carry chairs i saw a variety of aluminum bag chairs when I
looked. They are a bit higher in price but lighter than the steel
one's.

Add one of these and a couple of bungee cords and it would make the
walk along the road/sidewalk pleasant while hauling it all:

I have a couple of all metal ones that I bought from Costco several
years ago. I've found them easy to use, but you do have to have something on
them to keep them from trying to fold back up.

I own a couple of those too. They'll do in a pinch, but I find them
a bit uncomfortable and not really practical to use sitting at a table
because you sit a bit low. Depending on age and agility they can be a bit
difficult to get out of.

Those are a bit flimsy and the wheels are too small for rough
surfaces like gravel and grass.

agreed. ;-)

What I wonder about is why somebody like CampingWorld is not marketing
a crate cart with decent wheels. While I agree that bag chairs are
not the best at a table the flat folders are no better. OTOH I think
there is room to pair the crate with two bag chairs and a high narrow
cooler that would do a wine bottle and stackable containers or a
sixpack stacked. With decent wheels it would be a handy rig for
campfires or concerts. Bungee on a small pack or box for odds and
ends.

Now I'm wondering how the wheels are attached to my folding crate. I'd
go look but I need a minder to do stairs. ;-)

Make your own.
Get conduit at any local hardware store and a pipe bender.
Just follow the pattern they use.

Still another example of richard not knowing
anything about what he is talking about.
First, the conduit is made of soft steel.
It would rust to nothing in a year or 2.
Second, you can buy pre-bent 90º bends because bending
a 90º bend isn't as easy as richard seems to think.
Half inch tubing would be too weak and you can't bend 3/4"
tubing into a close enough bend for a lawn chair.
Anyone trying richard's idea will end up with a bunch of
kinked tubing and a $25.00 bender that they can't sell.

There's quite few out there, but not the inexpensive kind. Most are in the
"director chair" style and often come with a small side table and/or beer
holder.

They usually go for around $30-$60 each. (The $30 price is when they go on
sale or are being sold at Costco.)

They are similar to this:
