I have found a guy that makes beautiful solid wood fly boxes. They would be
better, though, with nubby tack instead of foam linings. Does anybody know
where to buy nubby tack?

If you are interested in the boxes e-mail me. He sells on e-Bay, and they
typically go for under $20. He makes them out of different woods, and they
are really quite nice for the price.

I stand corrected. I should have known you weren't interested in selling
these fly boxes when you posted under your own name.

Hey, Lindsey, I'm extremely interested in those boxes but last time I tried
to send you an email I got an auto-reply message from your onebox.com
account saying something about how members of ROFF are "sick-f***s". So,
Lindsey, I'm forced to reply to your post in public. Hope you don't mind,
Lindsey.

Lindsey, what's the eBay username of the person who sells the boxes? The
courtesy of a reply is requested as the holidays are soon approaching and my
wife has been asking me about gift ideas.

Thanks, Lindsey.

Heck if I know. In an email conversation I recently had with Mr. Collier he
told me his name was Lindsey and that I should call him on the phone if I
didn't believe that to be true. So that's what I've been calling him.

Very kind of you, and doubtless well meant. However, I need neither prayers
nor sympathy. I would appreciate it if you would refrain from public
announcements concerning myself.

Your views on various things are your own affair, and as I told you on a
number of occasions, your interpretation of the motives or feelings of
others may be very wide of the mark.

It is also in bad taste to send something like that in a post which also
consists of gratuitous insults to others.

Wow, actually paying to sell your stuff in a venue where people welcome such
activity. What a novel idea, did you think that up yourself? Oh, that's
right, you actually had such a place to do business, and had your priveleges
temporarily suspended, so you had to come here.

Funny how when you were trying to unload that reel here on ROFF you didn't
mention how it was gray market from Singapore, but I'm glad that your
impeccable sense of business ethics allowed you to sell only one. I'm sure
the buyer, whose email address is freely available on VFS under an Auction
Number that anyone could look up, but which I'm too polite to post here
(incidentally, I see your feedback profile at VFS is stellar), would be
pleased to know this information. Once again, with just about every one of
your posts, you sound less and less like someone I would choose to do
business with.

By the way, just so you can't say I'm not helpful, try Bristle-Tack instead
of nubby tack. I find it to be the better product for all but the smallest
flies, and refill inserts are available all by themselves at
http://www.sierrapac.com/Hi_Tech%20Boxes.htm

Enjoy your boxes, just try not to sell them here.

Is the guy's handle "dittyroland" perhaps? He has several mahogany fly boxes
for sale right now on eBay. He had several hundred of these boxes made and
he's selling the ones that are cosmetically imperfect on eBay. To wit:

Glad to be of help on the bristletack stuff

Gray market is famously not the same as if a US distributor sold direct,
because of warantee issues. The products tend to be waranteed in the
countries of origin.

Even the most disreputable of electronics dealers tell you up front when you
are buying gray market. People understand that inconvenient service is the
tradeoff for low cost. If your customer bought the reel "new", he probably
expects it to be backed by a US warantee unless he was warned otherwise.

By the way, you'll probably find at least civil discourse, and maybe even
sound advice here, but I don't think you'll have a good time trying to sell
stuff given your introduction.

I was happy to point you to the bristle tack, and I'm thrilled that you
found the VFS. Now maybe you can stop trying to hawk stuff here. You'll
find phrases to the effect of "If you want to buy this, contact me" will
set me, and possibly some others, off. Frankly, there are two reasons for
this: selling on the usenet is frowned upon, and I don't like what I've
seen of your business practices (before you rise in indignation, e.g.,
posting under an assumed identity). I might be wrong about this, but I don't
care, so clarifications aren't necessary. You shouldn't be selling stuff
here anyway, and disparaging responses are a risk you run when your posts
smack of commerce. There are regulars here who run flyshops, but you would
never know it from their posts.

I, for one, would not have a bad word to say about you so long as you
meticulously avoid business.

You can probably get them from an authorized Cortland dealer. The perfect
fly box would be a Flambeau clear plastic box (these are the ones used in
the fly boxes that are sold as *Day's Worth* boxes) with the C&F design
foam inserts.

I'm a big fan of the C&F foam strips. I bought one of the small boxes with
the threaders for "Bruiser size" flies. The slits in the foam hold any size
hook that I use very well and, unlike the foam where you imbed the hook, should
last forever. Wish I could just buy the foam strips at a reasonable price so I
could convert my old, green boxes with the white, worn out foam.

It's $6.50 for their regular size. I don't like their boxes at all. They
are light but they don't close well and the hinge (molded plastic) looks
like it'll wear out. Flambeau (like Myran and the Cortland Unbreakable)
boxes use real metal pins for their hinges and have th ebenefit of being
clear plastic.
