I'm wondering what other commercial names Z-Lon is sold under...Antron is
sold as Aunt Lydia's Sparkle Yarn or Dazzleaire, so is Z-lon sold under
other names as well? Looking in the yarn section at the local craft store
I did find some Olefin blends, but nothing beyond a 15% blend wrapped around
the yarn itself.

Also wondering if anyone's found a cheaper source for mylar cord they could
share. I haven't hit Joanns Fabrics yet, but the local craft store doesn't
carry it.

I substitute Darlon for Z-lon. It's a little pricy but it makes nice midge
wings.

Hi Nate,
I seem to remember Darlon was significantly cheaper than Z-lon. Darlon is,
or at least was, produced by a guy out of Denver.
Just glanced at a couple catalogs. Can get Z-lon for $4.50 a package from
Cabela's and get Darlon for $3.00 a package from Hunters.
If you are paying more for Darlon than Z-lon, something has changed. . .but
one package of either will last a bit.
(uh . . .they come . . .originally . . .in "really" large spools. So the
mark up, before you get them is significant . . .but heck . . .I, as I
suspect you, just want to tie a few flies.

Hi Dave,

Truthfully I have never priced the difference between darlon and z-lon. The
only reason being that none of my local shops carry it. I've always found
substitutes. I believe I paid 3.50 for my last pack of darlon locally. I
guess it just seems high for a synthetic strip material. I'll take your
word that z-lon is more expensive.

Take care,

Nate

Thanks Nate. Heh . . .heh . . .they are both high in cost for my simple
mind. But thought I'd just check with you. I have bought neither in a year
or so. (I guess we pay for our hobbies . . just glad I'm not into yachts .
. .a float tube is about all I can handle. . . uh . . .but it does have a 75
HP motor (g)
Snow today in Denver. Unlike other parts of the US, I am very glad to see
it.
