I seem to have problems with keeping minnows alive in my 10 gallon fish
tank.
I use well water, and use the minnows for fishing. I give them
fish food, and have a back filter on the tank. Maybe they feed on algae
or maybe the water should be colder...Any
ideas on keeping minnows alive for a long period of time in my tank??

Many small fish are often erroneously referred to as "minnows". All True
minnows are cyprinids, and this is a very large group of fish, including
carp and many others. These fish have widely differing requirements.

The true minnows found in the UK and Europe are cold water fish, usually
found in clear, cold, highly oxygenated water. In America, there are a
large number of minnow species, some of which are "warm water" fish. How
they should be kept, depends on what type of minnows you have.

Some Minnows need a great deal of oxygen. The water must not be too warm
either. Keeping cold water fish in small tanks can be quite difficult.
You will find some info here, which is more releavnt to American minnows;

Quite often the minnows we get here are salt water minnows. They will not do
well in freshwater.
