I Texas rigged a worm and sinker but it caused major twisting of the
line. My dad said I need to put a swivel on it. I have never seen an
illustration with a swivel included. I use a spinning reel. Any
suggestions on how not to reel in a twisted mess of line?
Thanks in advance.

A bad day fishing beats a good day at work!

Forget the swivel, that's a sissy way out of real fishing :) Typically, the
reason for major twisting is the worm is not rigged straight. In other words,
there is a bow in the worm between the two points where the hook engages the
worm. When you rig Texas style, make sure your worm is straight. Another
thing that will help is to make sure that your hook extends down as far as
possible, this will act as a keel. And finally, when you reel in and you
notice your worm rotating, hold your rod up with as much line out as possible.
Let the worm rotate back the other way to untwist you line. When the worm
stops roating, reel up quickly. This will load the line up with a slight twist
the opposite way.

If you are using tru-turn hooks, the turning of the hook in the water (they
are engineered that way) will twist the line. Don't reel the bait in and
that will help. Lift your rod and reel on the down swing.

NEVER USE A SWIVEL WITH A TEXAS RIGGED WORM....U MAY BE SPOOLING YOUR LINE ON
WRONG...DO NOT SPOOL A SPINNING REEL WITH SAY A PENCIL TAKING LINE TOWARD
U...HAVE SOMEONE HOLD THE SPOOL SO THAT U CAN READ THE LABEL AND THE LINE
SHOULD COME OFF CLOCKWISE.....

Just a quick note:
It's generally considered bad to type in all caps. Since we can't see
your face out here typing in all caps makes you look like you're pissed
as hell and screaming your head off.

Thanks,
Tommy

It's the win98 thing isn't it? I didn't have that quite that problem
but it did manage to slay all of my networking setups, which, really,
wouldn't be so bad if it hadn't taken me two months to get it set up
right in the first place.

Thanks,
Tommy

Bad subject - just before I left for the week I discovered that I had even more
problems with Windows 98 than I thought. I'm about to head back to Windows 95
:(

Dustin,

The main problem is fishing comes first, so the stupid computer comes second.
The problems with the computer appear to be associated with the new drivers
that were suppose to make Windows 98 famous. I have a TV tuner card installed
in the computer, and it was working okay before Windows 98. Windows 98 is
suppose to have drivers for TV tuner cards built in. Now, when I start up
Intel Interconnect TV program, I get a fatal error. When I try to play audio
CD's I don't get sound. When I try to run Web TV, it saids I need to check
my antenna or cable because I'm not receving anything. Plus, the computer
crashes randomly, takes 5 minutes to boot up and 5 minutes to shut down. In
other words, all the promises of Windows 98 didn't come my way, I got the exact
opposite of what I was suppose to get.

Actually a swivel and a 4 foot leader of mono can help. Yes the swivel may
sink in the water but if you keep it small enough it will minimize this.

One of the major reasons for line twist is that the worm twirls during the
retrieve for one of two reasons that I can think of:

- not properly rigged so that it can't swim straight in the water

- retrieving too fast causing the twirling action

A small swivel without a snap can help out quite a bit. As the saying goes
- different strokes for different folks!
