I am the unfotunate owner of a Suzuki DT 150 Serial No. 601528 (I
think that it is a 1989 model)

I live in South Africa and Suzuki Marine products are unfortunately
not well backed up in this neck of the woods.

After having owned this motor for about 4 months and having exhausted
3 different "dealers"and service shops and also getting no joy from
the local importers in South Africa, I am appealing to anybody who can
supply the correct tuning specs for this motor.

At the moment I am running her on a 16'9" Glass Fibre Bass Boat
spinning a 22" 5 Blade Prop. She will only pull 5200 RPM at full
throttle , I believe that I should be getting at least 5500 RPM.

The major problem is, however, that the engine stalls on
accelleration and decelleration.

The Idle is also very inconsistant and this results in poor low speed
control as the motor stalls continuously.

We live at +/- 6000 ft altitude and summer conditions result in
temperatures exceeding 30 degrees celcius.

I still need to "Dial Guage" the Top Dead centre mark on the fly
wheel of the No. 1 Cylinder in order to check the timing marks. I have
set her up to run with the timing at 4 degrees retarded at idle with
2. 5 turns of the pilot screws. Floats have been set at 14 mm.

I would appreciate any assistance with Factory or "old hand"
experience set up data such as:

Reccomended Spark plug Type and Gap Setting
Reccomended initial TPI Setup Procedure and Timing advance or retard
angle setting at Idle
Reccomended Carb Float Level settings
Reccomended initial Pilot Screw (Air Mixture) setting.

Any Other tips or info regarding this motor type set up would be most
welcome.

Thanking some good samaritan for replying

Steve,
I feel your pain, bro. I can't give you specific details on that motor,
I've never turned a wrench on a Suzuki.

However, there are service manuals for that engine, and I think you can get
your mitts on one fairly easy.

General outboard causes and effects should take place here. They aren't
really complicated once you get to the basic theory of a two stroke. Air
compressor with a spark plug. I'll send your request to a couple of techs I
know, and see if they can shed some light on your dilemma. I hate to see
anyone down with no hopes.

Steve, I too own a Suzuki, a 115hp, (I thought I was the only one), and this
past summer I found a Marine mechanic who does presentations at seminars and
also does all of the machine work for the local Coast Guard Boat motors.
This man's word is the bible to me, as far as motors are concerned. I've
printed out your posting and I'll try to stop by his shop tomorrow and let
him read your request.

Hi Pat

The Suzuki Importer in RSA does not stock non current manuals.

We in Africa are not so lucky as to be able to pop into a specialst
bookstore & pick one up.

I would be deeply appreciative of any help that you & your tech mates
could forward.

I agree that a 2 stroke is a simple air pump, however, when you have a
"sick"one giving hassles, I like to start from scratch settings.

A few years ago I ran a 140 HP 4 cylinder Suzuki, initially also
having many hassles. After checking the Timing marks, I discovered
that some turkey had reassembled the Fly wheel with a few splines out.
once I re-marked the timing marks, installed the correct Jets & Spark
Plugs with the right gaps, I had one of the sweetest running outboards
that I ever owned, she span up to 6200 RPM with a 21 inch prop on a 16
footer (was a little hairy to drive to say the least, running at
almost 70 MPH). Some other turkey however stole the rig from my front
yard after a few years of ownership.

Thanks for any help that you could forward,

Tight Lines, Smokin'Drags
