Abe,
Thanks for your concern on Brett. You are right
this is a very tough time for my family and I hate to here that you have
to go through this twice. Having to watch a child go through so much is
very hard on the entire family. I can't even imagine how much pain my
son has to take. He has been on steroids on and off for about 2 years
and he is a total different kid when he is taking them. I have heard
about steroid rage before he started them and we are getting a first
hand look at the effects.
Brett's blood counts are still holding
steady but his liver functions are still very high. We will be going to
St. Jude's in Memphis in the next few weeks so the doctors there can get
to know him. We decided if Brett does have to have the Bone Marrow
Transplant that is where we will do it at.
We still have not heard from Hank Parker, but we
did get a call today from a guide here in Arkansas. He has a local
television show and wants to take Brett out for two days of fishing and
they will also tape it for television. He wants to keep it a secret from
him. We will be on Lake Ouachita June 5-7 for this. The guides sponsors
will also be there to give out rod/reels and baits. All the details are
not worked out yet, but should be by next Tuesday.
I guess I have rambled on enough for know, but I
will keep you informed.
Take Care,
John Davidson

I personally think Hank has had long enough to at least make contact, and
that it is inexcusable not to have done so. Absolutely nobody is that busy
and important that they can't make a damn phone call. I am therefore
boycotting his TV show (weak & shallow anyway) and all Mann's lures and
Berkley products (I'll miss Fireline). And also anything else I see his face
on.

My boycott won't mean squat to anybody, but it's a start.

Yes there is a point to this idea. Let Berkley know about this situation
and make sure they understand what kind of a deadbeat they have flogging
there fine quality products! A shame you have such a sac of crap for an
endorser! My be they could stir up a visit, .... but I don't think I would
want my kid being visited by such a sad sac as this! This is really a bad
strike gain ol' Hank the crank! Sad sad situation!
Anyone with a good line to replace fireline????? Hard to live without it!
Don't think I can. The other stuff no problem! Going to write a letter to
Berkley this evening myself!

I visited www.powerbait.com and let them know that a very large and well read
newsgroup membership is voicing frustration over the situation, and may
boycott/bad mouth Hank's sponsors.

Feel free to join in. It is Brett's wish to fish with Hank.

Does anyone know what state and city Hank lives in? I just did a search on
phone numbers and came up with 29 hits. We might be able to narrow the
search and some of us give him a call. I think most of us would like to
give him another chance to respond. Not for his sake.

Rod, people here have been actively trying to find him for many weeks
through and beyond all the usual sources. For a "celebrity", that would have
to be called hiding and ignoring the public that pays his bills.
Understandably, he has the same right to hide from us that we have to avoid
his endorsements.

That, IMHO, is my take on the situation.

I would like to thank each of you for your support on this issue, but I
really don't think I want to push Hank into meeting Brett. If he really
wanted to, then I'm sure I would have heard from him by now. His sister sent
me an email a while back, so I'm sure Hank knows the situation. Brett has
offers from many other's that are wanting to take him fishing without being
forced. Jay Yelas sent him a package and letter the other day and I've been
trying to decide whether I want to see if Jay might be interested in meeting
Brett. The only problem I have with this is, I don't want him to think that
I only chose him because Hank didn't show. So what do you all think?

Thanks again for all each of you have done,
John Davidson

BTW, Brett enjoys all the emails so if anyone would like to send some to him
his email is brettd...@worldnet.att.net All that I ask is you not to
mention that he will be fishing on TV soon. This is going to be a surprise
for him.

I think two things John, first, Jay responded in good faith (because he is a
good man). I don't think Jay would care if he was second choice. But I
would not get Brett's heart set on Jay showing up. Scheduling of these
pro's is a big problem.

I think your better choice would be to contact B.A.S.S. and make
arrangements to go to Chicago for the Classic. I am quite sure that
B.A.S.S. and all the Sponsors would ensure that Brett has a chance to meet
all the Pro's and that he has the best time of his life. Say the word, and
I am also quite sure, that everyone in this NG who has any influence will do

I think you all have lost your friggin' minds. How in the hell does Hank
Parker know about this kid? Every one of you has posted that you don't know
how to contact him. If you can't contact him, how the hell does he know
about this. Second, what the hell does Berkley have to do with this?
Anyone tried calling them? Better yet, anyone verified the guy's story who
wants his son to fish with Hank? Yes, it would be a sick thing to make
something up about your son having leukemia just to go fishing, but doubt
it's the first time. And everyone stop whining about being insensitive, my
dad died from leukemia when I was 15, it took 3 years for him to die.
Emotions are a powerful thing. I suggest someone put some thought and
reason into this and determine the facts and act accordingly. All of this
rhetoric is just that. It sounds like the Bravo Sierra that comes out of
the White House these days.

Those steroids I assume you are talking about are corticosteroids
and are not the same as anabolic steroids. There are no "rage"
effects from corticosteroids.

Hey moron, If you had read further you would have noticed
that I printed a retraction to that post & corrected this info.
Instead of being a negative asshole, why don't you try helping. After all as
you said; you have been through this.

Thanks John.
That may be so, but the steroids that people mention normally
when they speak of mood swings are anabolic steroids, which are
entirely different than Prednisone. Anabolic steroids work on the
metabolic level increasing the size of satellite cells in the
muscles mitochondria. I was just trying to clarify for the sake
of those who don't know the difference.

Oh, I read your retraction, but you have just proven my point. Snap
judgments and emotional responses are NOT what this poor man and his family
needs at this point. I believe that all people are inherently good and Hank
Parker fits in that group. After all, he is a fisherman so he can't be ALL
BAD.

You are somewhat correct in the below statement. I would like to ask if you
have ever taken Prednisone? I may should have used a different term than
"rage" but Prednisone does cause some very bad mood swings. If you do a
search on the net about them you will see this is one of the many side
affects.

Hank should know about it. I have been in contact with Hanks sister, Mann's
Bait and B.A.S.S. BTW my son does not have leukemia and I have never
mentioned that he did. He has CVID which I did mention in a post about 3
months ago. Maybe you missed that one. All I asked for in the original
message was if someone knew how I could get in contact with Hank Parker.
Since my son was at Duke University at that time (which is not very far from
Hanks home), I thought maybe a phone call or a visit would help pick his
spirits up some. I did not have to prove my son was sick to anyone else on
this NG, but if you need proof that my son is very sick then let me know. I
can supply more proof than I would ever care to. I have been in contact with
some here on this NG by phone and email and never once did they doubt me.
All they wanted to do was help me get in contact with Hank Parker to fulfill
a wish that my son has had a very long time. Hopefully this helps clear up
any suspicion that anyone may have including yourself.
