Bill Dance does have 1 lake on his property, he does not film any shows
on his private lake. He films many of his shows in Floridia, some times
on phopsphate pits. Dance does film on public lakes and rivers and he
does, on occasion, give the location of the place he is fishing. Bills
show is intended to be informational and entertaining. I have from time
to time filmed some fishing it is not easy to catch enough fish to make
a good show and usually takes 3 days or so. Most of the shows are
filmed after much time is spent to locate good concentrations of Bass.
Do you watch a fishing to see people cast and reel or do you like to
see someone catch some fish. The truth is Bill Dance is a great guy and
one of the worlds best Anglers. Bills show is informational and fun to
watch, Bill lends an air of down home class to the fishing industry
without him this industry would still be struggling to gain a
respectable place in sports.

Hi Chris, (nice name)

I'd agree with you about Bill Dance legitimizing the fishing industry,
he's very good with kids and he does a lot to further research in areas of
recreational fishing and conservation. But as far as his show goes, I get
tired of (as others have mentioned) the constant barrage of Strike King
product endorsments. Also, during the commercial breaks on his shows,
THERE HE IS AGAIN! I can't trust his opinion on a lure or a product
because he is so caged in by his sponsors. How many shows has he used a
pork-o on? Or Strike King jig with a Bo-hawg frog? The Bo-hawgs are pretty
good though :)

I guess what I'm saying is, I quit watching his show because it was the
same one every time: Him catching fish after fish on a strike king lure. I
DO like to see someone casting and reeling sometimes, too! That is as
informative as watching him catch fish. It's too bad he's so tied in by
his sponsors to have to do all those infomercials. He fished an old-imer's
tournament for B.A.S.S about a year ago and and caught about 3 lbs. of
fish in two days, the ol' pork-o must have been off that day.

Good fishin!

>> You make a good point, I work for a company that owns several of
Bills sponsors. I will have to say that Bill is a friend of mine and
that I may be a little bias. But Bill is honest and most of the
products he uses he reqally likes. He helps design many things from
lures to boats. I have been a professional angler for about 11 years
and it is a hard way to make a living. If somebody offered me money or
free products to use a product most of the time I said yes. I would
even fish A Bo-Liz if Strike King Paid me. ;)

Bill Dance has always been a favorite of mine. Hell, my first Bass Boat
ever
was a 1974-1976 (I can't remember which) Starcraft Bill Dance Model. I
have
no doubt that he is an excellent fisherman and a gentleman. Personally, I
think he's the type guy anyone would enjoy being in a boat with. Our
comments (criticisms?) aren't directed at him personally but at the content
of his show. It's like reading a hot-rod magazine. Every article deals
with
installing a specific product which just happens to be advertised in the
mag.

Look, a black jig is a black jig to a fish. If you happen to put it in
front of a
hungry bass, that bass isn't going to look at the name stamped on it or
count
the number of colors of glitter glued to it - he's gonna eat it. To say
that Bill
Dance's methods rely on fishing a particular brand of bait is overkill.
Most
other hosts may recommend using a black jig and happen to mention the
particular
brand they're using, but that's the end of it. Bill just keeps going on
and on
about the virtues of the one lure he's using. Enough already.

About 15 years ago I attended a seminar where Tom Mann was a speaker.
Someone asked him what his favorite color worm was. His reply was that he
only used black or purple worms. When they asked him why then did he make
so many different color worms, he replied "Because you buy them". I know
the tackle business if very competitive and each year every company has a
new something-or-other (spelled: g-i-m-m-i-c-k) guaranteed to win the next
tournament you fish, but if the truth be known, place a lure, any lure, in
front of a hungry bass and he'll take it.

You are right, more anglers are caught by lures than fish. I personally
adhere to Tom Manns worm color theory. I only use black or red shad
worms. But some anglers have confidence in different colors, and if you
fish with confidence you will catch more fish. Bill does push alot of
product on his show, If I was to try and sell a fishing product Dance
is the man for the job. I have always thought of Bill as the King of
bass fishing, and now that I lived my dream and been a professional
angler and become friends with many fishing professionals including
Bill, I watch the shows because I know the people. The commercials are
a little much.

Chris Calloway is right on the money in his description of Bill Dance.
I had the opportunity to sit-in on one of Bill's seminars at Bass Pro
Shops
World's Fishing Fair, 1992. He's even better live than on the show!
During this World's Fishing Fair, Bill was inducted into the Freshwater
Fishing Hall of Fame, an honor well-deserved.

I've met a lot of the regular fellows from the national shows,
Dance, Wilson, Fishburne, Winkleman, and a lot of the pros, and I've
found out that they're just ..regular fellows. They live to fish.
They are humble (most of them) that they are able to fish for
a living, but none of them has gone to acting school, or
won an oscar before they turned pro. If they lack polish
or pizazz-so be it, -flash doesn't catch fish for them.

Try to imagine your best fishing buddy on national TV- the guy
who can't even remember to gas up the boat or put in the drain-plug,
but he just loves to go fishin'.....and he's good at it.
These fellows have to deal with producers and sponsors that are
very fickle, some don't know bait from shinola and each one
thinks they own the guy's butt! Most pros have to go fishin' for
sponsors and then 'sell themselves'every year for companies who'll
pay the bills on the circuit or when filming starts.

That grass is always greener for the coach on the couch !
