Hi folks. I'm finally replacing my sagging 10-year-old Coleman Sundome
tent, and I'm torn between two three-room tents (yes, I'm expanding)
that seem about equal in features and in quality vs. price. One is a
Coleman, can't remember the model name but it's about $180 and
L-shaped, and the other is a Columbia Double Whammy, made by American
Recreation Products, for $150 on sale.

I expect that Coleman has a good product for the money. Does anyone
have experience with the Columbia tents (any model) or with Colemans
that they'd like to share, regarding product quality and so forth?
I'll be car-camping with friends (music festival) at a fairgrounds if
that's relevant.

If this is the wrong venue, please also let me know. I looked in
Google for info but couldn't find what I wanted.

Thanks!

More info: That Coleman tent I was looking at is a "3-room Family Dome
Tent", according to their Web site.

You may not be aware, but Coleman has their own outlet stores, called
"Camp Coleman" in many areas in outlet malls, about 17 across the US.
Very good prices on a variety of Coleman gear, including "While
showcasing our vast line of Coleman products, our stores also offer
discontinued, factory excess, and reconditioned product at drastically
reduced prices." Coleman has had a good reputation for many years with
other types of gear.

I am not familiar with the American Recreation Products brand. I tmay
be affiliated with Wenzel, which has been around awhile. In any case,
look over the product carefully, looking at material quality and
workmanship. Compare to more expensive models to get a feel for what
you are getting. Even $150 is a bit high to end up with a throwaway.
Happy trails,

I've been to the factory outlet store in Coleman's home town in
Wichita KS (where I grew up) but didn't know about the others.
Unfortunately the nearest one is far enough away that the drive would
negate any savings on gear. But thanks for the info.

Yep, they make Wenzel tents and a couple of other brands, from what I
can tell.

Hi there! I go to a music festival in Winfield, Kansas (near where I
used to live), every year. Sometimes I hit other festivals of varying
descriptions as well. I've been camping at least once a year for about
15 years. One of these days I'll hike the Grand Canyon ...

Bleh! Oh well, at least they're not there being grumpy all week.

See ya!
