I am an avid backpacker, but I have special considerations....
1) I weigh 250 lbs... (I'm 6'5", not fat =:) )
2) I have a low budget, so my equipment is heavy
my pack is about 70lbs for long trips
I need boots. my budget is about $200-$250 and I need a size 14 to fit
my gunboats... I loved the Salomon adventure9 and the Asolo Cliff, but
they only go to sizes 12.5 and 13, respectively.
Does anybody have any suggestion?
Thanx in advance

How about a good army combat boot? Terribly comfortable, waterproof,
rugged, etc.

The Merrell Wilderness is available in size 14.
It is not the most durable boot in the world (I own a pair)
but if it fits... who cares. I also think a few of
the Vasques are available in extended sizes.
You might try dealing with a large retailer like
REI or LLBean (the make decent boots too, like the
Knife Edge) who will be willing to order large boots
for you at no risk. Smaller shops will often want
you to put a down payment on special orders.

Personally I swear by my Redwings. Bought them when I was doing an
archeological survey in the Mojave - never got a single blister from
them (also wore them for 5 months while still a trainee when I carried
mail and didn't have a uniform allowance yet - still got the same pair
despite those 6 day a week months of trodding the sidewalks of San
Diego).

I also use Redwings. They are comfy and long wearing. I use their Irish
Setter series hunting boots. My best friend turned me on to Redwings after
he spent a season with the Fulton Hot Shots in them.

Hey Brian!!!
There is nothing good, comfortable, rugged or waterproof about army
boots. I've been in them for over 8 years and know many others who can
vouch for their merit, or lack thereof! Maybe you've got weird feet or
something...
Mark
Well, I wouldn't say my feet are weird....a little different
perhaps.....
Seriously though....I've bought a couple pairs of boots over the years
from the local army surplus shop. The ones I'm currently wearing are
made by Greb. Basic black leather with a rubber-type sole. I use them
for fishing/camping. I regularly stand in water up to an inch below the
tops - never had a leak. Terribly comfortable - really I wouldn't trade
them for anything. I just treat them regularly with a good silicone
waterproofer (waterproofer?) and polish.
