I've got a 12V converter but have no idea how I can hook up a battery.
First you need to find out how the connector pins are wired.
You can see the ground wire because it is attached to the
frame just behind the connector. Get the 12v battery and
hook a couple of leads to it. Attach the battery ground
lead to the connector ground pin. Probe the other pins
one at a time with the battery 12V lead. You will see the
trailer lights light up one at a time. Write down the
pin assignments for future reference. Eventually, you
will get to a pin that does not appear to do anything.
Go into the trailer and switch the Converter power switch
from 120VAC to 12VDC. Turn on one of the interior lights
and it will light up when you have 12v on the connector
hot 12v pin. I cut off each of the connector plug cable
wires EXCEPT for the 12V and ground. This is the cable you
got from the dealer. Just attach battery clamps to the
end of the cable and hook it to the battery.
I put the battery in a plastic battery box and run the
cable into the box. Be SURE that you have the polarity
correct. Battery '-' to frame ground and '+' to the
connector 12v pin.
I carry the battery in the van and hook it up whenever
I need it. It makes it easy to re-charge it this way.

Kevin,
Get a spare connector from your Jayco dealer and wire it to the battery when you
are in the campground. The connector is the same as is used in your wiring
harness from your car. I don't remember the Jayco color code right now, but I
would bet that it is RED for the 12 V Hot wire and White for the ground. The
rest of the wires would be unused.
