Can someone tell me what a full 20# propane tank weighs and what an empty
one weighs? Trying to figure out how full my grill tank is before I head off
for a camping weekend.

Tanks are all stamped with their exact tare wgt. That plus 20 lbs = full wgt.

Look on your tank for the "Tare Weight" - the empty weight. On mine I find a
TW followed by 17.0 stamped into the top of the metal ring that protects the
valve assembly, which means the tank weighs 17 lbs empty. Your tank may
weight slightly more or less.

Since it is a 20 lb tank, it will hold 20 lbs full.

That means it will weigh 17+20=37 lbs full, 17+10=27 lbs half full, etc...

To check how much gas you've got, pour a little bit of hot water in a
stream down the side of the tank, then feel the tank. The tank will
still be cold where there still is liquid propane inside. There is
your fuel level.
