Greetings.
This question is regarding camping in New Hampshire.
Can anyone please tell me where I can go into the woods and camp on State
Park property.
It needs to be no hassle, no services, just plain woods.
A stream or river nearby is preferable.
A campfire is also a must.

Paying for a site and being on private property may be OK, but I like to
just drive there, leave the vehicle, and hike about a mile or so from the
road. (Less if the area is good).

Years ago we went to the (spelling may be off here), Kancamagus highway and
just went into the woods for a night. (NO CHARGE OR PERMIT REQUIRED).
(according to Mr. Ranger)

So, bottom line...park, walk, camp. Can someone help?

Thank you,
SW

The website for the NH State Park Campgrounds is
http://www.nhparks.state.nh.us. There, you can find site maps for all the
state park campgrounds.

You should be aware that NH has been suffering from a mini-drought, so the fire
danger is rated as "extreme". I would doubt that you would be able to start a
campfire without a formal fire ring.

Also, there is now a fee for usage of the National Park lands, but I don't know
if that includes just camping.

Good luck finding something that meets your needs.

Actually, you answered most of my question.
As I suspected, NH now charges for going camping in the "primative" wooded
section of their parks.

Thank you,
SW
