I just bought a Hi-Tec Yosemite 18 tent from Big 5. Can't find any
reviews of it on the net.

Big 5 must get special models made for them by the different
manufacturers, as I've run into this same thing with a Wenzel tent.
Probably makes sure no one can price-shop on the same model name.

Anyway, this is a 7 person, 18' x 10' tent.

Anyone have any experience with these as far as durability, quality of
construction?

Come to think of it, I can't find ANY Hi-Tec tents listed anywhere.

Yeah, I saw that. Awful lot of information there on the tent, Tom.
Gee, I don't know what I was thinking. ;-)

By the way I was looking for a review of the tent, not a paragraph on
"what I did with my weekend".

Are you sure it's actually marketed by Hi-Tec? It could be a case
where Hit-Tec licenses their trademark to another company. You'll
typically see this in the fine print on the box or instructions.

I'll check. I see a very similar product by Suisse Sport.

I'm probably going to take it back anyway. After I realized how big
this thing actually is, I don't need something that big. I think I'll
shoot for a 10x10 dome or something.

Something from the Eureka! Tetragon series might fit the bill. It's a
bit higher quality than most sporting goods store tents, and has a
real polyester floor. I used a cheap Target tent with a tarp-style
floor. It never rained while I used it, but noticed twigs forcing
their way through the floor. Eureka has special polyethylene
footprints, and I actually used one under my cheapo tent.

I went and got a Wenzel 12x7 tent instead. I currently have a Wenzel
7x7 tent, and it has served me well, though I've never been in any rain
in it.

I always use a footprint under my tents.

I'm becoming more of a pussy in my old age. Went and bought an
inflatable air mattress too. Of course, I have a new lady friend who
likes camping, so this sort of colored my choices.

OK, but you said you couldn't find anything. I just copied the first Google
hit, there were many.

Sorry for being twitchy. I kinda thought you were doing the same to me.
I looked at the first page of google hits, until it quit showing all
the search words in the display. There was an eBay ad, the one you
posted, and not much else that I could find specific to that tent.
Nowhere could I find a review though.

I'm returning it anyway. Too big. I've had good luck with the Wenzel I
have, so I got another Wenzel.

But, I'm pretty sure these models are specific to the retailers. Keeps
us from being able to price shop very well. Tents are cheap enough
anyway, so big deal.

BTW, I generally do a google search first, before I clog up the
newsgroups. Not always, particularly if the desired info is hard to
figure out a search term for.
