If by wildlife you mean moose, there are lots of places - but the moosiest
place I know is Kokadjo (Northern Pride Lodge and Campground - tel 695-2890)
just up the road from Lilly Bay State Park and the Town of Greenville
(where there are a lot of cabins with widely differing qualities and
prices). Baxter State Park is another very good spot, but you have to make
reservations early (call the Park's reservation clerk now, and be prepared
to compete for reservations) to get a cabin in the park. If that doesn't
work, you can stay outside the Park towards Millinocket and day trip into
it. It is a remarkable place. One of my favorite areas is near there,
along the West Branch of the Penobscot River. I usually camp there, but the
Pray's do rent cabins, and there are cabins at Frost Pond. Umbagog Lake on
the New Hampshire/Maine border is another very good place to view wildlife.
I almost always see eagles there, in addition to moose and other wildlife.
I am sure that there are cabins available in Erol, but here again I camp
there. I like Cedar Stump, which is controlled by Saco Bound, and
accessible by canoe.

Be aware that this is pretty nearly the height of our black fly season.
Mosquito's can be troubling, but a real swarm of black flies can be
unbelievable. If you are going to spend a lot of time outdoors in Maine's
woods in June, particularly in the swampy areas where you will see moose,
you will need to be prepared. For me during the month of June, that means
being ready to wear long pants, long sleeve shirts with tight fitting cuffs
and collars, and either a head net or a bug jacket. Wind and cold days can
make some of this unnecessary, some spots are worse than others, but don't
count on escaping torment unless you are ready to shut them away from you.
