Well, the SCA techniquely stands for The Society for Creative Anachronisms.
An Anachronism is something out side of its own time period. We are a
medieval recreation group, but actually I have found the society to be much
more.
We are a an odd assortment of people, all races, religions, and
professions, that have found a common interest. Now your thinking, "I
found unity in the history they recreate." Well, not exactly. The history
is a large part of it. We are very carful to be as realistic as possible,
so that we are not confused with Dungeon & Dragon groups. We are not the
Satantic Cults of America either. That is a large part of it, but mostly
we have found unity in haveing fun. To us, getting together and acting out
the middle ages is like a big party, which is what we do have after the
fighting at an event. We are a family. In the SCA you can always count on
the other members in your in trouble. For example, I got stuck in a snow
storm in Amarillo, Texas and I happen to have the phone number of someone
from the group there. The people I called (thanks Wilkin!) gave me a place
to sleep that night and helped me pull out my car the next morning. It's
this type of loving and caring that make many people join the SCA. We all
need something like this in our life. If you would like to contact someone
in your area, just post a message to "the shire or barony near __________."
Or, you may write me at Isabella_a...@mail.utexas.edu.

What!? (Little mistake, I hope, or Isabella's from a rougher neighborhood
than any I've ever encountered in the SCA.)

There is, however, some justification for our being referred to as "the
Slightly Crazy Association".

My tuppence,
William the Mariner
(who is NOT slightly crazy -- he's eccentric.)
