Greetings, from Jessa d'Avondale.

Remember, today (1/11) is the deadline for the January board meeting.
I just faxed a 3 page letter on my feelings on the new waiver requirement.
I called first, and was told that I could send the letter this way. I
did make sure it was neatly typed (well, laser-printed), each page was
numbered "x of 3", and I signed it.

The fax number of the Corporate Secretary is 408-263-0641. She is in
until 4 pm Pacific time.

The meeting on the 23rd is in Milpitas. If any Rialtans attend, can you
please let us know if this topic is discussed? I suggested that the Board
extend the January 1st deadline, since they only effectively gave the
entire fighting/fencing/etc population of the Society 2 months to get their
new cards. If anyone is interested, I can post the letter, although I
think perhaps I should wait until after the meeting.

Jessa

Hear, Hear!
Greetings from Lord Michel l'estropie de Montserrat.

Although I think Flieg's 'Open Letter to the Board' said things much more
eloquently than I ever could, I just thought I'd like to get my "deux
centimes" worth in as well.

I showed up to practice last week (Mission College, in Santa Clara, CA)
thinking about getting back into armor after an injury-forced layoff. I
found that the principality marshall was "leaving to go somewhere else" so
that people who did not have the new Blue Cards (like a 'Blue Law?') could
go ahead and fight "whithout his knowledge that they were in violation."

What a crock! I personally think that the West Kingdom/SCA/BoD has gotten
it's collective noses a little too elevated in the last several years.

When I went to my first event, people I didn't even know took me under
their wing and kept me warm and dry as it rained buckets. They have since
moved to another Kingdom, and the West is poorer for it, as I would be
surprised to see such kindness and courtesy extended to a newbie nowdays.

Sure today's newbies may be rough around the edges, and there are some whom
I avoid after the first couple of conversations, but I didn't think I would
EVER see the day that the SCA started telling people that they had to be
members in order to play. Again, Flieg said it all better than I could.

Could someone give me directions to the BoD meeting? I'd like to show up
as part of a large contingent of those who are discontent with the way the
BoD has seen fit to change 'their' Society.

RECLAIM THE CURRENT MIDDLE AGES.... THE 'DREAM' IS NOT DEFINED BY THE BoD.
