I don't know what the problem with personal checks is... I've used
them ever since I started attending Pennsic and have never had a
problem. I have occasionally given my home group, but that's been all.

Some merchants may accept personal checks (as well as credit cards)
you just can't use them at the Troll Booth to pay your camping fee.

Sorry if I wasn't specific enough - Cooper's Lake Campground will not accept
personal checks. This is stated in the information booklet (and if they won't
take them at the troll booth, I don't think they'll take them at the camp
store). However, individual merchants certainly may accept them - I've
paid for several large purchases this way.

However, I think it's more important to emphasize to new attendees the fact
that you need to bring sufficient cash (or traveller's checks) to get in the
door, and for buying things from people who won't accept checks or plastic.

You, and others, are perfectly correct - I was speaking to the
comments about merchants not taking checks, but did not make that clear.
I have had no trouble with *merchants* taking my checks, have not had
much to do with the store, and pay cash at the front gate just like
everyone else. I apologize for the confusion.
