re: thrown weapons, An Tir allows throwing axes, slings and lacrosse sticks
to throw "stones" (cut tennis balls), and atlatl (spear throwing stick).
I believe the bow restriction in An Tir is #28 at 28" for combat archery only.
Anything else, someone from An Tir would have to answer, since I haven't
lived there for a while...

At least ten years ago, when a friend of mine was stationed on Okinawa,
it was illegal to import rattan. Shanai and bow staffs were the common
weapons. Bow staffs were also cut into sword lengths. Bow staffs have
been banned in Atlantia because they are considered laminated wood.

Nope, I personally know one gentle, Magnus Erikson/Edward
Stirling, of the Barony of Borealis (edmonton alberta), who
is authorised with morningstar. It is case by case only here
in An Tir.
BTW, he found that the compromises necessary to make the
'mace and chain' safe rendered it rather ineffective.
I don't think he's fought with it for 5 years or so.

When the 'chucks first ran it out and everyone finished applauding and
cheering, a couple of marshals came up and said that they couldn't use it
because it had holes in the face of the shield to use spears through. The
Tuchux acquiesced, and covered the holes with tape so that they couldn't use .
them.
The marshals then put their heads together, and decided that the shield
couldn't be used because there were too many large nails used in it's
construction and it was "too dangerous".
The Tuchux and their erstwhile foes were mightily disappointed.

I some half an a year ago suggested the Byzantine scythed chariots of
Emperor Alexios Komnenos would be not very legal either. How about Greek Fire ?
Or organ guns, even with rattan bullets ? Elephants would seemingly be OK, if
stuffed enough in duct tape :)

Does anyone want to get into a discussion about Latin naming practices for
countries, to determine whether it is _appropriate_ for a latinized name for a
country to be masculine?
The latin word for "country" is "patria", which is feminine. The latin word
for "land" is "terra", feminine. Even the word for farmer, a person who works
the land, while typically a man, is "agricola", which is feminine. All of the
examples of latin names for countries that I can recall are feminine (Roma,
Anglia, Gallia, etc).
Does anyone know of any examples of latinized country names that are
masculine, or even neuter?
SIDE QUESTION: Anyone know the latin form of "William" off-hand?
