Anyone in Ft. Collins:

Are there any nude colonies around the area?

Nothing in Fort Collins. The closest that might be available is The Silo
near Wellington, about a 20 minutes drive to the north. I haven't visited
there for about three years now, but the owner was trying to get the club
off the ground for the longest time, having a hard time of it. He has a
swimming pool, club house, hot tub, etc. The place is fairly rustic but OK.
He had a couples/families only policy when I was last there.

Next closest are a couple of places around Denver. One is the Rocky
Mountain Bares (RMB), a non-landed club. They hold swim parties once or
twice a month on Saturdays, and a few outdoor activities in the Summer. The
swim parties are held in a health club in a Denver suburb. The health club
is closed to the general public during these events. They have a pot-luck
dinner during their swims. It is about 1 hour drive from Fort Collins.

The other place is a little west of Denver near Morrison. It is called
Mountain Air Ranch (MAR) and is about a 1 1/2 hour drive from Fort Collins.
It is a landed nudist resort. It is situated in a valley in the foothills.
They have swimming pool, hot tub, sauna, club house, volleybal, paddle
tennis courts, camping, hiking, etc. Their fees are higher than those of
RMB.

There are other places in Colorado bot they are quite a bit farther than the
three that I mentioned. Let me know if you want any more information about
any of these. I have been a member of all of them at one time or another.
I am currently a member of RMB.

You sound new to nudism based on some of the terms that you use. Let me
explain some that may not be obvious:

landed club: A club that owns their facilities, usually some land that is
managed as a resort.

non-landed club: Opposite of above. They usually meet in rented facilities
or in one of the members' home.

Nudist colony: This is an old term that nudists don't usually use to refer
to themselves. Ants and lepers have colonies. Nudists have
clubs, beaches, and resorts.

The following is a summary of the nudist clubs, resorts, and hot
springs that I know of here in Colorado.

Mountain Air Ranch - a landed club, about 20 miles west of Denver,
probably has the most developed facilities. They include a swimming
pool, hot tub, club house, hiking trails, sun deck, volleyball
courts, campground, children's playground, picnic facilities.

Rocky Mountain Bares - a non-landed club based in Denver. Their
activities include hiking, picnics, swim parties, hot tub parties,
trips to other landed clubs, houseboat trips. Monthly they rent out
a health club or a hot tub place for a party.

Silo Country Club - a developing landed club, near Wellington (north of
Fort Collins), some facilities still under development, has swimming
pool, club house, volleyball courts, softball field, pool table, ping
pong table, camping. Open on weekends only.

Desert Reef Beach Club - a club in Penrose (near Canon City).
This place is build around a hot spring. Clothing optional several
days of the week.

Valley View Hot Springs - in San Luis Valley. They were featured in the
centerfold of Clothed With The Sun magazine in the Spring 86 issue.
Beautiful view of the mountains and the San Luis Valley. Non-members
may visit on weekdays.

Valley View Hot Springs
P.O. Box 175
Villa Grove, CO., 81155
(719) 256-4315

Strawberry Springs Hot Spring - near Steamboat Springs. Don't
know much about it except that it exists.

Cunnundrum Hot Springs - near Aspen. Undeveloped hot spring on National
Forest land. 7 mile hike to get there. Described in World Guide to
Nude Beaches and Recreation.

Note: Many of the private clubs have membership restrictions attempting
to keep the male-female ratio from getting too much out of balance.
So it is best to bring a friend of the opposite gender with you.

Send me email if you want more info. I am a member or have visited all
except the last two.
