SUN ISLAND RESORT

1631 Harbison Canyon Road

El Cajon, Ca. 92019

Ph: (619) 445 3754

May 23, 2008

We are saddened to inform you that Sun Island Resort is closed effective
this date. After over fifty years of being a nudist resort formally known
as Swallows Sun Island Club it has become necessary to take this drastic
step as a result of recent events beyond our control.

For those of you reading this message that are still active members we will
be prorating your membership fees and refunding the remaining fees to you.
This should occur sometime in the month of June 2008.

The management of Jim and Ruth Shafer wish to thank all of you have been so
faithful to Sue Latimer, the former owner and matriarch of Swallows, the
Swallows Club and to us during our fourteen plus years as owners.

Bill...if the recent events beyond their control could be explained
candidly...could be other clubs might learn from these events...jz

My last post was copied from their website.

Six to seven months ago, Sun Swallows was in the process of setting up Park
model home sites, with decks and hot tubs that were to be sold. There
seemed to be interest in these units. We too looked real hard at the
arrangement but chose to set up our weekend get away at De Anza Springs
because Sun Island was suffering from serious encroachment. We saw that
there was no opportunity to hike nude out of the camp. The place was
limiting RV spots too, when available real estate was converted to permanent
Park Model home sites. The emphasis also seemed to be put on partying hard
at the new bar down by the pool. The pool/bar area were in the middle of
the grounds, so where would some naturists get peace and relaxation? At De
Anza Springs one can hike or find a secluded spot for meditation away from
the noise and crowds. The thing is not all nudists want to come out to a
club on the weekend and be a drunken whore or whore chaser, but some do and
this is a problem that scares non-swingers away, especially those with kids.
People still want to play volley ball or tennis with their kids and not find
used condoms by the lounge chairs, and the management that chases the
swinger dollars is very short-sighted. Every business has to plan for the
future and nudism has to attract younger people, not middle aged idiots who
have lost their souls to booze and sex. I hope AANR does a study on the
demise of Sun Island and uses what they learn to help other affiliated clubs
to avoid the same managerial mistakes.

Thanks for the details...might i add there is a possiblity with the
slumping real estate market ...that they are trying to get a nice
offer and can see that developing that small camp is impossible beyond
what they would like and need to keep it going and be viable....i can
see it being worth lots of money for a large apt or condi complex and
yes the past events also affect this decision...i wish them the
best ....and totally understand...jz

My previous comments should not be taken as an observation of any management
policy or event at Sun Island, but as generalizations of contemporary
problems with the nudist resort in general. We didn't find Sun Island to
fit our needs, but it was a beautifully kept oasis in the middle of nice
properties. I thin Jon Zee might have hit the nail on the head, the owners
might have gotten an offer they couldn't refuse. So remember folks, just
because you buy a home on rental land, there's no guarantee you'll be able
to maintain a home site if ownership changes hands. Also, nude use of
property can be worked into the parcel's deed. There are properties in
Florida and North Carolina I know about where the deed says the owners have
the right to nude living. When buying a property, make sure you can legally
use it as you intend.
Hey Jon, we shard posts without ignorance and name calling, and they thought
it couldn't be done!
Sincerely,
Bill S in AZ

In other words, you don't know why Sun Island has closed. It would
have been wiser to just say so. As it is, your other post will be
distributed extensively.

well as humans evolve it requires matching guns or usually the same
language in order to keep it honorable....i knew T ...the husband of
Sue...and it must have been the early sixties when i first went
there...and i kept thinking how beautiful the property was but it was
small...but consider it is commuting distance to SD and it was always
valuable property...so i think the owners are really in good shape and
you cant blame them....and i am sure the members will be happy and of
course they are close enough to de anza and that place has all the
room in the world to expand,...regards..jz

Possibly a contributing factor since it did create a financial
burden. However, the fire was a while back. I've been there since
the fire, and rebuilding was complete. It was substantially nicer
than before.

Frankly, I don't know why it closed and I'm not about to guess in
public.

My wife and I were there two years ago and loved the place!
It was stated on their welcome literature that they were NUDIST and NOT
clothing optional.
It was looking nice and the people were very friendly.

We were quite upset to hear last year that they were abandoning that and
going "clothing optional".
Then came the reports of party, party, party.

It is a pity.

I too am saddened with the closure. I visited swallows three times
in the past.....I recalled the resort pet dog barks at anyone not
disrobing. well, those days are gone now.

Sorry to learn that a USA nudism has to close after so many years -

never let it be said..that the conscience of nudism did not speak at
the funeral....somewhere out there is a young woman saying to
herself...gee i remember that place and used to look at guys dicks and
jackoff there and one time i was told to stop....but i knew that ol
guy that told me did not mean it....jz
