Chile: Nude Beach Planned For The South

They plan to create a new nudist resort in the Eighth Region
The new center would be modeled on the controversial Playa Luna.

Playa Luna Sur is an idea, and for many a good idea. No opening date
has yet been set nor is it known if it will be located in an area near
Puda (Region VIII). However, a group interested in nudist-naturist
activities expects the spa's name to be a magnet to attract
participants.

Rene Rojas, coordinator of Chile's first nudist beach, Playa Luna,
noted that the idea of a nudist resort in the south "came from the
people involved in the practice over recent years."

The potential users are being organized, which is the first step
towards the formal establishment of a beach within the rules of the
regional municipality. According to Rojas, "it is impossible for the
authorities to say that this is going to be nudist beach," and you do
not need a certain number of activists to implement the initiative,
but simply from the outset it appears there is a real commitment.

That commitment is associated with the success of Playa Luna. La
Agrupación Naturista de Chile, born as an organization interested in
econudismo, began operations in 1995 in Region V, and since then has
continued to make presentations and meetings to develop nudism in the
country. The most visible result was the establishment of this
controversial beach in the summer of 2000, which this season will be
receiving more than 5 thousand visitors.

Despite this, it is not possible to speak of a nudist revolution, but
you can detect that there is a movement that is growing and gaining
acceptance.

Regarding the participation of some of the authorities in the
phenomenon, Rojas said that until now the nudist beach had not
received any support. "In 2001 I was prosecuted for organizing a nude
beach and for promoting practice of nudism. The only tacit support
from that trial was to have won," says the coordinator of Playa Luna
located north of Horcon.

Rojas does not consider the support of politicians or authorities
valid if they only support naturist clubs, simply because "they are
not nudists. They talk about creating access for things that already
exist. They make assumptions," and in addition he said of the
spokesman for the planned Club Playa Luna Sur, that "it is easy to
talk about it from a desktop, after we spent 10 years in the sand."
