According to Lee Baxandall's Nude Beach guide, Alum Creek state park
near Columbus OH has a nude pond area off of Rt. 36. Does anyone know
if this is being utilized as a nude area still? If so, is it mostly
male or mixed or what? I was there during the spring and it was empty
(probably due to the cold), but it also seemed a little small so
I wouldn't expect many people there (i.e. if I found the right spot).

Anybody been there this year?

Alum Creek is still being used nude, but The Buckeye Naturists STRONGLY
advise against it. There is a bill in the OH legislature that would outlaw
nudity and getting caught would only add fuel to their fire. There is also
a lot of development going on in the area and with it's ease of location,
it's not a good place to go. We have learned that the rangers will ticket
people caught there with indecent exposure - a sex offense in OH.

As a second-best option for the time-being, are there any prime locations
to catch some rays thonged?

The main beach at Alum Creek still allows thong suits. At least that is
still an option for now.

Alum Creek was raided a few years ago by park rangers and
there were arrests with names printed in the Dispatch. We
only go to Nudists Camps where there is a close 50/50 male
- female ratio and there is no worry about busts (no pun
intended) or gawkers.

I don't agree with the advice not to use the pond site nude. There is
always some degree of danger of arrest, citation, or just harrassment any
time we use an area nude; but if we don't push the issue, we will never
get anywhere. Haulover Beach in Miami FL and the locations in Wisc. are
examples. There someone was willing to start the ball rolling and others
willing to join in.
This has always been a problem in OH. When I was president of the Buckeye
Naturists, few were willing to come forward and help and most of our
outings to non-nudist club locations were not well attended.
If we want to have nude recreation sites in OH, now is the time to come
forward and take a stand.

If HB188 weren't on anyone's agenda, I'd agree completely. But until we've
successfully killed that proposed bill, I don't think we should rock the boat.
We _are_ going to have to challenge some ideas here in Ohio if we want to
have public sites available to us. But timing such actions so that they give
ammunition to those who might vote for bills like HB188 is probably not wise.

As a clothed dog walker who uses Alum Creek to take the boys off their
leashes and wandered into this conversation, let me add my two cents. Alum
Creek is a bit of a misnomer. This is a very big stretch of Creek which
features a rather crummy beach sections with life guards et al. That's the
section that spawned the bust the teenage girls in thongs stupidity a few
summers ago. There are other sections of the creek that are much more
remote where you don't have to deal with the teeming masses. Be creative.
In fact, the quarries of Delaware County have been used by teens by years
for swimming sans clothes and doing other things that teens do when they
don't have adult supervision. Don't cause a scene in the central Alum
Creek area or the heat will come down and dog walkers will get ticketed as
well :-{

This is precisly the reason TBN is against Alum Creek nude usage. Yes,
some people are still going there and they are doing so at their own risk.
Alum Creek has been surrounded by construction that makes the site even
less usable than it was a few years ago. An ocean beach or major river
beach is one thing. An algae choaked pond just over the hill from a number
of fishing areas and near a number of homes isn't. TBN wants to find some
areas worth fighting for, but after this bill is defeated. It has still
not gone to the committee, so there is still time to fight it. BTW: a bill
remains active for 2 YEARS after it's been proposed, unless something else
happens to it, so we have to see on our legislators about this thing.

This site was used some in past years, but the latest word is UNDER NO
CIRCUMSTANCES ATTEMPT TO GO NUDE AT ALUM CREEK!! This from the Buckeye
Naturists, who are monitoring the situation.
