Nudity in Bollywood Film "Jail" marks a growing trend?

new movie is coming out which will have a full frontal male nude scene
in it. Common in Western films (though even in Western films female
nudity is far more common than male nudity) but rare in Bollywood.
SO, will this film make nudity more common in Bollywood films?

I disagree in the sense that it might reflect a society's inclination
to tolerate or restrict social nudity.

Actually in this case I think it is going to make Indians less
accepting of nudity because along with the nude scene the movie is
going to show a sexual act (which of course reinforces the whole
nudity-sex connection). Having sex scenes in Bollywood movies hasn't
been that common in the past either but it could be a growing trend.
I am surprised that the government is allowing the movie to even be
shown. It is sure getting a lot of Press due to its contents.

Mumbai: Although actor Neil Nitin Mukesh has previously admitted that
his role in Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Jail’ was very difficult to pull off,
but as far as his nude scenes in the film is concerned, the actor
seems quite comfortable! According to the latest news report, Neil has
said that he has no qualms in stripping on screen, and the actor has
also made it clear that he is willing to drop his pants again. The
actor also believes that audience won’t mind the nudity and
masturbation sequence in the film, as they will come to watch hard-
hitting cinema.
Though the Censor Board made Bhandarkar blur Neil’s frontal nudity,
the bold and talented actor says that if any director was confident of
projecting him in a particular situation through his stripping act, he
was willing to walk into the dreaded territory.
Neil recently revealed that some portion of his masturbation scene was
voluntarily removed from the film before it went on to the censor
board. “Honestly, after Madhur and I shot the masturbation sequence we
found we had gone too far. It was too explicit. It was just not
jelling with Indian concepts of aesthetics. So we decided to knock it
off quite a bit by mutual consent. We just wondered if the flow of the
narration would be hampered,” said the actor.
Neil further explained, “My nude or masturbation scenes are not for
titillation. It’s a very practical need in the script. My character is
in Jail without sex for 2 and 1/2 years. What does he do? He naturally
seeks pleasure by himself. In the scene that we shot my character
fantasizes about his girlfriend and gets his gratification.”
‘Jail’ is all set to hit the screens on November 6.

In it they had a scene where two nudists were coming out of watching a
movie and one commented to the other that "there was too much nudity
in it". Of course that statement is supposed to be ironic and I can
see how it can first appear that way but indeed it makes sense.
Nudists perhaps more than anyone knows the difference between good
nudity and exploitive nudity and in most movies the nudity is
exploitive.
There are only a few movies I can think of where nudity has been used
appropriately. Most the time they were jungle scenes in movies.
So, yeah, the wrong type of nudity in movies can make people LESS
accepting of social nudity. And in regards to this movie I think that
will be the effect it will have on the Indian public though I thought
they were pretty unaccepting of nudity to begin with.

Madhur Bhandarkar’s Jail has been in the news more for its adult
content than its story. This serious film starring Neil Nitin Mukesh,
Mugdha Godse and Manoj Bajpai has been given a U/A certificate by the
censor board and left with seven cuts including a nude scene involving
Neil.

The story of the film revolves around Parag Dixit played by Neil Nitin
Mukesh. Parag leads a happy and comfortable life with his girlfriend
Maansi (Mugdha). However, he lands up in jail following a series of
unfortunate events. He tries to get out of the ugly truth but succumbs
to the prison anarchy. He however finds solace in a Nawab, who thinks
that he is innocent. Will he choose the life that is controlled and
exploited or fight against the system? The rest of the story tells
just that.
Neil-Mugdha pairing is one of the highlights of the film. Mugdha is on
dream run in Bollywood, as her performances in her first two films,
Fashion and All The Best, got her lots of accolades. Now, her third
film is ready for release. Neil is back after his much-acclaimed
performance in New York.
In fact, Jail is a complete Neil film. He has been in the news ever
since it was launched. He is one of the most daring actors around in
Bollywood today because he is not scared to shed his clothes if the
script demands. As expected, the censor board came down heavily on the
nude scenes. The director of the film had to blur the scenes even
further on the directive of the board.
The film is said to be a reflection of the country's judiciary system.
The Regional Officer of Censor Board had revealed that they loved the
film. He added that it is an impressive, well researched and a thought-
provoking film.

If you look at other "scandalous" Bollywood films you would see that
their films are usually more innocent than Western films. It is kind
of sad to see that's changing.
Bollywood's essentially quite prudish. We talk about sex but we don't
show it. There's hardly ever been any on-screen nudity and it's become
a cliche to even joke about the way a lovemaking scene cuts to a shot
of two flowers or a train entering a tunnel.
However, sometimes Bollywood decides to get daring. Here's a look at
