In People's Park there is a section where nude sunbathing is tolerated.
However you get out of that area and you're busted big time.

It's in a section across the creek from the main entrance according to my
source. I cannot say any more than that as that's all my Native Spokanite told
me.

If you're caught in another section it's a big time ticket and you're
jepordizing the nude use of the section allocated.

People's Park is a small park that is mostly left to the wild and not
maintained with much frequency by the county. The park itself is
actually a wooded field area that runs along the Spokane River and
Latah Creek (aka Hangman's Creek). There is a gravel parking lot that
accomodates about 75 or so vehicles and from the parking lot it is
about a five minute walk along dusty trails to the actual beach area
of the park. The beach is located where Latah Creek and the Spokane
River meet...it's a somewhat large stretch of sand and dirt that can't
be missed. Since the 1970's, the entire beach has been clothing
optional...one can lay out in the nude on any portion of the beach.
Across Latah Creek, which is only five meters wide, there are trees
and shade where many people lay out too. Up stream of Latah Creek is
more privacy, and this section tends to be where gay beach goers hang
out.

>In People's Park there is a section where nude sunbathing is tolerated.

It's difficult to determine what is "tolerated." Most years the
entire beach area is nude use...that is, if the cops come to check
things out and they want to harrass people, there are not "tolerated"
areas. They simply ticket everyone at People's Park (there was such a
"commando" raid last May where six people where cited by a large group
of police officers). However, when I visited several times last
summer, the police only made cursory checks for alcohol violations and
to question transients. As long as you covered up when the bike cops
showed up, you were fine; and that was on weekend days when there
were 100 to 200 nude users present.

>However you get out of that area and you're busted big time.

Again, there is no special area of People's Park for nude useage.
Those of you that have visited it know what I mean. The park is small
and only the beach area is usable for any human activity (the rest is
scrub grass and dust). The entire beach area is nude friendly, but
you must be cautious with reference to law enforcement. If you are
going to get "busted big time," it's not because you were out of any
pseudo-nude beach area...it's because you were nude in public within
Spokane city limits.

Your friend must not get there much. The main entrance is a five
minute walk from the beach area. The only part of People's Park that
can be used is along Latah Creek (on both sides).

As a native of Pullman and someone who visits P.P. every weekend in
the hot summer months, I beg to differ with your friend's description.

Again, there is no allocated nude use section of the park. Rather, if
the cops come down to the beach area, and you are nude, they will
ticket you if they are in the mood to do it. There is no guaranteed
"safe area" for nude use there. Rather, the cops tend to focus on
alcohol violations and transient problems and ignore nude use on the
entire beach if you simply cover up when they show up.

Visit Mooncrow's nudist webpages and check out People's Park (aka
Latah Creek Beach) for more information and accurate beach
descriptions.
