can anyone give me the whole scoop, as it what car she was driving, did the
guy let her go afterwards and was she really driving around so they wouldn't
follow her home? I'm going off "ME and a Gun" here and it's not good on the
details, just the part about being on her stomach with a man on her back

There is a sensitive, in-depth discussion of the issue over here:
http://www.thedent.com/rape.html As far as I know, the snippet of article
in the middle is the most Tori has ever said about it.

'Me and a Gun' isn't meant to be a narrative of a real incident. Part of
the inspiration for the song was her own experience, and part of it was
the film _Thelma and Louise_.

The 'whole scoop' isn't well-known. She's never sat down and given a
second-by-second recount of the event. The best discussion of the rape
question is on The Dent:

Angela, this guy is a troll. In fact you guys seem to have quite the troll
problem now. Kinda a bit of cosmic justice in a way, since some of you were
so fond of calling anyone you didn't agree with a "troll." Still, makes me
sad coming back here and seeing all these utter damn worthless scumbags
trolling rmta, in the time of a new album that we should all be enjoying and
talking about together. Well, not much you can do about it besides make
your KF grow and grow.

I will now hijack the troll's thread and turn it into a little on-topic
discussion. :D What's everyone think of the artwork? I think it's the
best looking CD I've ever seen. I wonder if Tori had any hand in designing
it. (Music discussion reserved for a more appropriate thread and when I've
had a chance to listen to the album more!)

I haven't got mine from Sony yet (although they say it shipped!), but the
pictures I've seen look pretty spiffy. I think it might be the prettiest
cover she's ever done. Given the scale of Tori to the flower, though, I
wonder: on the cover, is she meant to be a beekeeper or a bee? :)

Angela

P.S. It's not my favorite Tori look, though. I like her sleekness in SW.

I dunno, maybe their posts are more visible due to the lack of OT ones, so
they feel like they "win". At any rate, a few other music-related NGs I
came back to had the same problems.

Hopefully the NG traffic will pick up greatly in the next couple weeks with
the new album. You think a lot of fans have moved on to other artists or
just left the NG for other reasons?

No idea. I don't know why she feels like she has to have a big "theme" for
every album now. If she needs to justify writing her songs, or maybe she
just likes to do it, or can't get inspired otherwise. But I kinda think
it's better for the music's sake, to just WRITE instead of trying to
constrain it to fit some theme. Made for nice artwork though. :D

I think the various online forums have leached a lot of traffic from
newsgroups--that includes conversation ones like @forumz (and the turbidblue
ones and the ones at yessaid.com), but also more personal ones like
LiveJournal. We're not the only newsgroup that I've seen hit like this.
The NIN newsgroup is almost empty, too--in spite of the fact that Trent puts
out a lot less often than Tori and is about to release something new.

I don't know. I haven't read her autobiography yet, so maybe the answer is
in there. If I were just guessing, I'd go with something between
inspiration and organization. Maybe she likes having order to them.

Speaking of Trent, I think he was disappointed in the reception of The
Fragile. He's abandoning the theme album this go around.

I think that most people have moved to other web-based forums. They're
viewed as easier to get to, plus they don't require special software. The
forumz <http://www.atforumz.com/> seem to average a couple of hundred
posts per day, which is what rmta got at its high point.

For both SW and BK, I struggled to recognize the theme. I could
reasonably see how it could be stretched to fit a theme when she
explained it, but I don't think the theme is all that rigid on either of
the albums. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the theme was applied
after all of the songs were recorded.

Well. Her first single sings about butterflies, so there's gotta be some
kinda theme going...
