well, it's official...

i have a purple bedroom!

it's fantastic! we are talking dark purple bedroom of doom here,
people. i'm loving it! we still have to do another coat, just to
make it more luscious.

now here's a question... say you have a dark purple bedroom of doom...
what colour carpet might you consider getting? i was going to just
sand down the floorboards, but there are some gaps between some of
them so i'm slowly going off that idea. i need some ideas!

Oooooh, I'm all jealous. I wonder if I can convince Rich to paint a
room like that . . .

I like the wood floor idea, but I adore hardwood floors, so I'm all
biased. :)

For carpeting, you could go with white. You'd never be able to keep it
clean, but there ya go. ;)

Paint something and go to the carpet store. Play around, bring home
some carpet samples. See what you like. I've seen purple carpet
before, but that might be overkill.

just don't tell him it's gonna take 3 coats. but do hang around and laugh
at him when he starts hallucinating from the paint fumes, and insists that
the paint is actually grape-flavoured. i still rag on jason about that.

white would be impossible for those of who "can't have nice things". i
think someone else's recommendation of orange might work, but i wouldn't
like it to be bright. a burnt orange might be good. dark greens always
go very well with purple, if erin wants to go the safe route. just about
any bright colour will work with purple, but you'd need to make sure it
was intense enough not to look washed out next to the wall colour. black
would be cool. pastels would tend to look quite awful, i think, but i
don't like pastels.

i do recommend getting shiny gold switchplates for the purple room, it's
worked nicely in our house.

Ding! I'm just not a pastel girl. We went out shopping today, thinking
of painting before we move in. I see no reason to get "white with a
touch of <something>", 'cause it looks white unless you hold true white
up next to it. I can't stand pastels {do I look like a baby blue girl
to you?}, so that's out. That leaves dark colors, which I know are
time-consuming.

Hrmph.

We're thinking about leaving it be for now, and painting later. The
seller repainted everything eggshell white before putting it on the
market {and the house hasn't been occupied since it was painted}, so
it's not like the house is in desperate need of paint.

Of course, it also took us all day to agree on curtains for the living
room, so I've got a long uphill battle ahead of me. ;)

That sounds pretty, actually. How would gray look? I don't know, but
it's an option. As is anything, I guess. :)

*lol*
i wish it were grape flavoured! imagine scratch and sniff bedroom
walls :) but nadyne, seriously, it's worth the elbow-grease just for
the outcome.

i don't know what it is about britain and wall-to-wall carpeting! i
mean, it's not the there is that much varient in the weather that cold
would be the problem (although, i know that's their excuse). in
canada, hardwood flooring is the norm, especially in the older
houses... but no way, nuh-uh is it that way here in the UK.
i just wish that hardwood flooring didn't cost so much or else that
would definately be what i would choose.

well, seeing as i could never keep the white carpet clean, i don't
think that's the option i'll go for :) i have to admit that although
i went with the dark doom purple, i do tend to stay on the safe side
of things.... so green sounds like a nice colour!

tim wants to stick with the idea of sanding down the floorboards, gaps
and all... so who knows??

great idea! i was going to stencil some gold stars here and there as
well :)

thanks for all the ideas, everyone! keep 'em coming!

LOL Sorry... that just struck me as funny. Reminded me of a couple of
installations I've been on... Husband and wife were both there when
they picked out the fabric, etc., and told the decorator what they
wanted... Product comes in, installer puts it up, and then one or
both start the "I'm not sure that's what I/we wanted... it looks so
different from the picture..." Of course it's gonna look different
from the picture-- it's now dimensional! Oh well. I guess ya hadda

I think they want it white 'cause everytime someone moves out (or gets
"asked" to move out) they repaint the place before even showing it...
so I guess white over white makes it easier for them...

Don't laugh, but what I really saw in my mind as I was reading the
original post about the deep purple walls was a large field of purple
poppies... all that luscious purple and all that dark mossy green...
Sigh... I've been inside too much these past few months!

As for the gray-- I don't know. I can't seem to picture it...

yeah, but it's going to be easier to do it before you move all your stuff
in. we got most of our painting done between closing and actually moving
in, and that was quite a relief. and yeah, the dark colours are more work
(that cranberry in my dining room took 4 fucking coats, and with high
ceilings that was no picnic), but i think they're worth it.

are you going to have a little leeway time between closing and moving in,
or since there's no one living there will you be able to go in and paint
even before you close? if you set aside 1 day each weekend to paint 1
room, you should be in good shape, especially if you drag in friends and
suckers to help. JB and john were a big help to us in painting, i'll see
about shipping them down there. :)

> Of course, it also took us all day to agree on curtains for the living

jason couldn't care less if we had curtains at all, so i never had a
problem with that sort of thing. most of our curtains are the same ones
here when we moved in, all i did was wash 'em and rehang 'em. in fact, we
didn't buy any curtains for this house at all, the ones we added ourselves
transferred nicely from our other house.

as always, people confuse communism with totalitarianism. i'm a pinko
commie, and my bedroom is dark purple. so nyah! :)

nah, most greys would look washed out by the purple, and grey is simply
too safe-looking. moss green would work well, as would hunter green.
safe, but still striking. speaking of moss green, our moss green velvet
sectional is being delivered in another week, and i'm pretty psyched about
it. well, part of it is being delivered - the factory fucked up the order
and didn't make 2 of the pieces, so they're on rush order now. but i'm
excited anyway, and it has, you guessed it, dark purple velvet pillows.

JCPenney... that's who I work for... Anyway, we see the "pillow
from home" thing a lot! Problem is, the stores have florescent
lighting... homes heve incandescant (sp?) or natural. Florescent
seems to always add a yellow tint to everything that you don't see
until you get it in natural light...

Flop thanks you! And she always does have her "room" that can be

hmmm, i liked the idea of moss green, but i was also thinking about
maybe a nice dark shade of teal? i dunno...what color is your

'sounsd like fun deciding though! :)
