I thought I'd cross-post this to rmta. Well folks? Are we Tori-fans all
lesbians? :>

In article <charles1D...@netcom.com>,
charles copeland <char...@netcom.com> wrote:
>I have heard Tori Amos music, and really like it.

Then you have excellent taste. :>

>However many of her lyrics seem to dwell on "man hate".

I disagree. Tori never says "all men suck" or "men are the enemy." She
talks about situations where a particular man hurt her or made her angry,
but she doesn't blame the whole gender. "Under the Pink," in fact,
focuses on the ways women hurt each other, but I wouldn't call her a
woman-hater.

>I was wondering if the crowd attending her concerts are heavily lesbian?

I would say no. Tori has a lesbian following, as many women singers do,
but she also has many gay male fans, and many straight fans of both
genders, and many bisexual fans, and probably one or two adventurous
celibates. :> The crowd at her concerts tends to be about 50/50
gender-wise, and though there are groups of guys and groups of gals, there
are many hetero couples who attend together as well. rec.music.tori-amos
has almost as many male "regulars" as females, and the "sexuality
continuum" seems to match up pretty well with the rest of society.

That's a stereotypical view of lesbians. Tell me, how many
lesbians do you know? I actually know quite a few, many of whom are
beautiful. White heterosexual male, are we?? I'm sorry.

At first I thought this was someone on rec.music.tori-amos being
cute. But then I realized the crossposting and knew that this kind of
post possibly originated from there. I mean, given the chance,
especially on usenet, any closet case will be the first to post something
like the above. Frigging breeder.

That was TOO fucking funny! I'm still laughing (and I'm a girl). I personally

actually, the proper term would be "guy who never has a date". this
reminds me of when a lesbian acquaintance of mine was hollered at in a
bar that she was a muff diver. she pointed out to the guy that if he
wasn't a muff diver then his gf must be pretty bored. i figure the same
goes for fishlicker. if he really thinks of going down on a woman in
such a negative light, he must be no fun at parties.

Well, now that you have our attention, Icky (if I may call you Icky),
please enlighten us as to why millions of girls cream their panties
about Tori Aanus's faux-feminism-bullshit approach. Repressed teenage
lesbianism, perhaps? It is a known fact that Tori Aanus is dyke as all
shit. Which makes you a fag hag, Icky. Now toddle along and go listen

From her interview on Modern Rock Live, February 1996: "I think the
feminist movement is dead."

Tori is hardly for "whining" as you put it, and the feminist movement
was never about "whining," anyway as it was originally set up.
Anyway, it's not to maon about "status in life," it's to set up a
consciousness of what history and our culture has dictated what women
were. A big difference. She protests any type of system that puts
control on any person, if you want to get a more direct political
stance, personal view.

We've had lots of discussion about the Tori vs. Kate issue on both
rec.music.gaffa and rec.music.tori-amos, and we've come to the
conclusion that the very striking difference of their poetry, and
their differences in music style prove they're not as similar as they
first seem. Kate is very likely one main influence of Tori and Tori
has admitted to saying that "Running Up That Hill" is one of the best
songs she's ever heard. But a rip off? Come on! Tori's a strong
artist in her own right. (By the way, I don't consider Heather Nova
to be a Kate ripoff, either, nor Jewel a Tori rip-off, let alone Happy
Rhodes a Kate rip-off, to let you know further where such discussions
have gone).

I hate to interrupt your homophobic rant here, but I just want to point out
two things:

1) There are no such things as "beefcake tomatos". Perhaps you meant
"beefsteak tomatoes".

2) The "Brave and Crazy" cover has her face on it. I believe you were
referring to "Never Enough".

Carry on.

Gosh, I like "Little Earthquakes" and "Hounds of Love" both. I've got
a Sinead O'Connor album around here someplace, too. And hey, there's
the stack of Mabel Mercer and Edith Piaf albums too!

But not Melissa Etheridge, for no particular reason, guess I hear her
stuff on the radio enough.

Hmmm. I don't really know how to respond to that. I guess that
"Persinthia's" "I've-been-through-some-rough-shit-and-want-to-tout
it-to-make-others-feel-unworthy" attitude sort of ticked me off. I
really don't like people who feel high and mighty about experiencing
something that is, in my opinion, fairly normal. Yes, I view many forms
of mental illness as quite normal, indeed perhaps as coping mechanisms
we need to develop to sustain life. I also view mental illness as
something which produces a lot of productive things--namely various art
forms. Mental illness has never had "bad" or "sensitive" connotations
for me, I guess. It easily *could* have connotations for me because
I've been exposed to some forms of it, but I detach myself from it,
I guess. Yes, my comment was uncalled for, and I thought about
that after I sent it, and I do apologize for it. I realize that the fact
that she mentioned
how people should consider the feelings of others indicates that she
expected better of me, being a Nice Guy and all. I guess that this is
all I have to say about it. Well, I *could* say more and would like to
but won't out of respect for any rmta'ers who do feel sensitive about
such issues. I guess I just have a weird take on the subject.

And besides, so what if Tori Amos is a lesbian, anyway. She sure as shit
can't sing worth a fuck and she's ugly too. Maybe she can play the piano
some, but so can my old Aunt Gertrude. I'm not going to buy any of her
music no matter what. And if anybody doesn't like that, they shouldn't
buy any either.

You see, Icarus, if I may call you that...I don't have to quote a bunch of
authors or doctors to get my point across. I'm secure enough to go by my own
experience in life and not show off to the ENTIRE internet my book knowledge.
Hey, that's great, you must be pretty proud of yourself knowing that people
are going to read this and say 'Boy...you sure showed Persinthia who's the
smart puppy'

See...you're talking about passing on my 'Elitist words of Wisdom' to others
and all you can do is quote other people's writing. What's wrong, Iccy, are
your own life experiences and 'words of wisom' so shallow that you have to

Hey---you sound familiar...didn't I read some of your bullshit in
Request magazine?? What you don't get is that Tori has talent and
isn't afraid to be herself...not Kate Bush!!! I know who Kate Bush
is, and their music doesn't even sound the same. You son of a

First, in case nobody has ever tried to enlighten your sad life, purposefully
misspelling a person's name into a twisted pun is the lowest, most banal form
of attack, and demonstrates that you can find no other grounds by which to
dismiss them. Other relevant examples can be found in transcripts of speeches
given by Rep. Dick Armey, the Rev. Pat Robertson and most Ku Klux Klan rallies.

But to address the main point (barely visible under all the excrement floating
around it), Tori Amos does seem to have a higher percentage of gay, lesbian and
bisexual fans when compared to the estimates for the general U.S. population.
Many people have cited her frank statements about religious oppression, emotion-
al and psychological abuse from family, as well as a host of others, for the
reasons they find her music easy to relate to.

Ah yes, the old "compare women's sexuality to dead fish" argument. That's
always been a sound, defensible argument. You twits.

Melissa Etheridge (see above remark about childish name-based puns) is in a
long-term monagamous relationship with a director/film-maker named Julie
Cypher. They were on the cover of "Out" magazine an issue or two back, in a
discussion of the issue of same-gender marriage, along with such other high-
profile same-gender couples as U.S. Rep. Barnet Frank and his partner. Though I
am sure you will refute the very idea, many gays and lesbians prefer steady,
monoagamous relationships. Not untirely unlike heterosexuals. And I fail to
see any relevance in the size of Melissa Etheridge's breasts, except that
trying to reduce women to little more than their sexual organs is another
popular, but baseless argument when a person has run out of real points to
debate.

This will no doubt come as a suprise to Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, as
well as Tori herself, since both acknowledged having been involved romantically
here within the last few years. Her long-time SO before that was someone named
Eric, who co-produced the "Under the Pink" album, and for whom she named one
of her songs, "Song For Eric".

Not to mention the Denver DJ I know who goes out with Ms. Amos when she is in
Denver. Lucky bastard even has a pic of the two of them together.

A real man doesn't need to refer to women as "pussy". A real man doesn't
need to stick his dick into everything that has a hole. A real man
doesn't have to rely solely on his sexual performance to be any good to
society. A real man doesn't go around insulting people needlessly. A real
man treats women with respect and doesn't treat them like pieces of
flesh. A real man can carry on a conversation without insulting everyone
in sight? A real man can disagree about musical tastes and not beat
someone over the head with their opinions.

Uh, yeah, so? What else does a real man do in your opinion, or is it
as they say, immaterial to a girl like you?

It was crudely put, but it is a known fact that the sort of sensitive
man you are talking about never does get any tail from the hot babes
because they are all fucking the thugs, and never gets tail from lesboes
like you, which is fine.

Well, IMHO, a real man would never have to force a woman to sleep with
him. And I doubt that you could make someone as successful as Melissa
Etheridge sleep with something like you -> anyone who has to tell the
world that they're a "manly man" probably isn't.

Dave...

It's really a shame that most people won't appreciate the fine sense
of irony you bring to Usenet. I'm sure that most will take you
seriously, and conclude that you're merely some undersexed man living
with his mother who hasn't had a sexual experience with anything other
than the produce aisle in the past ten years. But I, I think
I know better. You just doing a wonderful impression of the mythical
mysoganist guy, you don't really think any of that, do you? Surely
a wise and educated man like yourself doesn't think that "lesbianism"
is some sort of disease that needs a "cure"? No, if you didn't
approve of homosexuality, you surely wouldn't sign your posts
"A Man's Man" now, would you? Who is the lucky guy?

You see Dave, most people are going to ignore this most subtle brand
of humor. But I can appreciate you Dave. I know that you're a
compansionate, liberal-minded guy who detests the f***heads that
you so cleverly impersonate almost as much as I do.

Thank you Dave, I hope others will realize the service you do to
us all...

Goddammit why cross a French Monty-Python taunt into a Tori Amos flaming
