I don't know if this has ever been brought up on the group, but I was on
Morpheus, trying to find 'Silent All These Years' as covered by the MIT
Chorallaries because one of my brother's frat brother's was in the group at the
time they covered her songs. (My brother used to complain so much that he had
to hear Tori at home and at school. Silly boy.) Anyway, I came across a song by
Cannibal Corpse /featuring/ Tori Amos. I thought this was bizarre, so I
downloaded it.

It was called 'Stripped, Raped, and Strangled' and it features Tori's PSA about
RAINN and then the most horrific lyrics about raping and killing seven women.
If you wish, you can find the lyrics here:
http://www.cannibalcorpse.net/BLEEDING.htm (scroll down three songs)
It continuously splices Tori's PSA into the song. It really disturbed me
because this boy who asked me out in my miserable school years who I gently
turned down, went on and posted a website featuring drawings and descriptions
on how he was going to rape and kill me. His favorite band was Cannibal Corpse.
I don't believe that music starts violence, but there /must/ be a copyright
issue, at the least, involved here. Unless anyone knows if this is a fan-made
mix or if it was officially released, that is.

And, yes, I called the police and they asked him to take the page down. He
didn't the first time, so I threatened to press charges of sexual harrassment
and it was taken down and he didn't bother me again, but that was the last I
ever saw of public school. I spent most of schooling home schooled via the
school district. It was not fun, but much better than school, public, private,
specialized, or any other way. I think I'll hire Jane Eyre for my children.

"Suck my wake!" -- Anne Bonny, perennial heroine.
"I want to bite my initials on a sailor's neck ... I want to be just like that
other trollop, The Lorelei." -- Ira and George Gerswhin's 'The Lorelei'

I don't know. I got it of morpheus as well, it turned up in a tori search.
On the forum they say it's from the band themselves, but I don't know.

How do you "gently" reject someone? I hope he scared you, you deserve it.

I downloaded some of that, I started to listen to it while about halfway
and felt sick, I didnt get the rest of it.
to glorify something as sick as rape AND using the words of someone who has
been in that situation to bolster the songs appeal just beggers belief.

does anyone at RAINN know of this songs existance? Im sure they could do
something about it if it is an official release.

Dude, 90% of this newsgroup lives under a bridge. I'm one of the ones ON
it.

Anyway I love taking the other side of a fight. Coming to the aid of
another "poor defenseless woman who was so scared by a big mean man", that's
just trite. Standing up for the man rejected, that's golden.

there are many women out there that deserve what this woman got.

Oh, yes, thank you. It was several years ago. I just had a positively miserable
middle and high school experience and that was one of the many stories.
Luckily, he never acted on any of his threats. Thank you for asking, though. :)

Thank you, once again, everyone, for showing concern. It was actually one of
the lesser incidents of my public school life, if you can believe it. I was
beaten up a lot and thrown down stairs, and pushed into lockers, etc, etc, etc.
The worst was that I have hair down to my waist and they would come up behind
me, grab me by my hair, twist it around their fist, and bash my head against
the wall. That really had a much more lasting effect on my psychosis.

It was not fun, but much better than school, public,
>private,
>> specialized, or any other way. I think I'll hire Jane Eyre for my
>children.
>>
>
> prolly be cheaper to buy then a shotgun ;)

I'm so glad my parents pulled me out of school and got me help before I reached
that stage. The worst part is that we still live in the area and I have panic
disorder and had to transfer to a local college, so I still see the
bottom-of-the-barrel kids who work menial jobs. I nearly threw up a few weeks
ago when I ordered pizza and the delivery boy was one of these groups of boys
who would do the grabbing-hair-bashing-head thing, not to mention the nazi
propaganda they liked to cover my locker with. He had the nerve to ask me on a
date! I wanted to slam the door in his face and ignore the food, but, like a
moron, I just gave the bill /and/ tip. I have been using this pizza place for
over ten years. But I really wish I didn't tip him. I couldn't even eat the
pizza. It ended up rotting in the fridge.

Well, that was a depressing post. I apologize.

And as for letting a guy down gently.. well, I shouldn't feed trolls, but my
major is Mythology and Folklore. He asked me out and I said, "I really do enjoy
your company, Cory (the sick bastard's name), but I don't feel we would survive
as a couple because I don't like you 'in that way'. I hope we can still remain
friends." Yeah, I do sound like Jane Austen. Except when I'm driving. Then I'm
%100 NYer. ;)

ooo! i wish my school had a mythology and folklore dept. that was a
fabulous way to reject the guy. from what you're saying it sounds like he
was doing it as a practical joke. hopefully that confused him.

This wasn't the same boy who bashed my head. This was at a high school for
'fragile gifted' children. Total joke. It was full of kids who were violent
towards teachers, threw chairs, etc, etc. I was on home schooling and my
parents desperately wanted me to be in a 'social school environment' so I spent
my junior year of high school in this program and then this kid Cory asked me
out and then put the webpage, etc.

Oh, btw, my college doesn't offer it as a major, either, but I had the option
of creating my own major. Only four schools in the US offer Mythology and
Folklore for a major. Harvard, UPenn, and U of Indiana (undergrad and graduate)
and UCLA for graduate only. My SATs were too insane to ever get me into UPenn
or Harvard (710 in verbal, 490 in math. And my brother got an 800 in math.
Thanks for stealing the gene!) and I couldn't handle going away as far as
Indiana. I hope by the time I'm up for graduate school I'll be able to go to
the UK because I want to concentrate on Mythology and Folklore of the British
Isles, including England, Scotland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Wales, and
Anglo-Saxon, Norse, Breton, and Norman mythology. I want to open a museum after
my PhD.

So, yeah, I liked Faeries /and/ Neil Gaiman before Tori. It's just hard to make
people believe it. ;)

Do you have any Maria Warner books? Great stuff, especially
"No Go The Bogeyman" which I forgot I'd picked up in a bargain

Oh, yes, I have them all. I've written a lot papers using her 'From the Beast
to the Blonde' as a primary source. There's also a great book called 'Strange
and Secret Peoples -- Fairies and Victorian Consciousness' by Carole G. Silver.
And two great books on the Little People in general are 'An Encyclopedia of
Fairies' by Katharine Briggs (who wrote many books on the subject) and 'The
World Guide to Gnomes, Fairies, Elves, and Other Little People -- A Compendium
of International Fairy Folklore' by Thomas Keightley.

It was a great find in the bargain bin! But it's a pity that it had to be in
the bargain bin in the first place. Still, better for scholarly folk like me
who run up huge bills on books. It's kind of funny to hear a parent yell at you
about spending so much money on books. So I always tell my parents it could be
crack and then they accept the bill. ;)

I'm really glad to hear that. I was rather horrified to think a signed band and

Yeah, Briggs is my main faerie reference.. some great folklore
in there. my copy seems to be in storage right now 8-[

I have the 1978 Avenel edition. A friend of mine really lusted after it in
the early to mid 80s (can't remember precisely when) but had no luck
locating one. I don't know if it was out of print altogether or just hard
to find, but she was disappointed.

Her search worked out pretty well for me, though, because while helping her
hunt the book stores, I unearthed a used copy of Lady Gregory's 'Cuchulainn
of Muirthemne.' Woohoo! Sadly, it was subsequently devoured by gerbils.

I don't know about that, but I've heard some people say that they bash tori

The "song" was done by some random Internet nasty evil person.

It wasn't done by the band themselves. The original "song" (nasty evil in
itself) does not have Tori in it.

Some people have too much time on their hands.

I have a first edition of Tennyson's _Idylls of the King_, the 1869 one
published by Strahan. Its condition absolutely sucks--to the point that I'm
scared to open it--but who cares? I can buy translations. Anyway, I
haven't actually seen the book in years. My parents are keeping it for me
with some of my considerably less rare books. I've never had it appraised,
because given its condition I'm sure it has no value. But it means
something to me.

The same with my complete first-edition set of "The Works of John Dryden,
Now First Collected In Eighteen Volumes Illustrated with Notes, Historical,
Critical, and Explanatory, and a Life of the Author, by Sir Walter Scott,
Bart." Again, the condition absolutely sucks. This one came to me through
an amazing stroke of luck. One of Steve's former employers was looking to
get rid of them, and he -gave- them to me. The -whole- set. I explained to
him that what he had was of some more significance than he realized. But he
didn't know or care who either Dryden or Scott were, he knew I was an
English major, and rather than keeping them and trying to make a buck off of
them, he just gave them to me with his good wishes. (sniff).

That's nothing to one of my Medieval Lit professors, though, who had a
number of gorgeously hand-illuminated medieval manuscripts in his
collection. Speaking of drooling. I'm starting to salivate right now. :)
