In one of the binary groups, somebody posted appromixmately 300 of the
top Billboard songs for 2008. Now I know I'm know I'm getting to an
age where I'm into earlier generations of music. It's going to sound
like a cliche and a generalization, but of the songs I listened to,
most are some of worst crap I've ever heard in my life - it's not just
the rap songs - everything sounds so mediocre and same old same old.
The voices and the beats seem to all fall into 1 of about 4 or 5
styles, and just about every song starts out with a couple of verses
then the canned beat starts. There are a few good songs here and
there by Coldplay, Pink, Katy Perry, and a couple of good ones by
unknown performers, but much of it is not worth buying or even saving
on the computer.

Trust me, it's not you.
Todays crap all sounds the same.
See Nickelback for reference...

Compared to rap, the music in general wasn't too bad. However, the lack
of real instruments and real musicians made it disappointing to listen to.

I like one thing that came from 2008, Pretenders: Break Up The
Concrete.
The jury is still out on 2009, and that may be Dylans "Together
Through Life".
and Mark Knopfler's "Get Lucky"

I couldn't agree with you more. I do like some of the new stuff though.
