This song came out in 1980 by Gary Burbank - was the song ever
released on cd?

Wow - 30 years since the whole WSJR thing - I hardly ever watched the
show - I worked 3-11 for many years, and never had a VCR til 1989

I actually have that 45 in my collection. I never watched Dallas then
BUT when the show went into national syndication in the fall of 1985,
I was hooked on it,.

To my knowledge, that song and Roger Hallmarks Message To Khomeni ARE
NOT on CD.

Never heard of the song but I remember the TV show very well and
all of the hoopla surrounding who shot J.R.

At the time it aired it was the highest rated episode of a TV show
in the history of television, eclipsed a few years later by the final
episode of MASH.

the fall of 1985 was when most of the Lorimar produced night time
soaps went into syndication. Dallas, Knots Landing and Falcon Crest.
Dynasty(20th Century I think) also went into reruns that season and
because of how they aired in my market, I was able to watch all of
them if I chose too. Now TV is a mess and hard for me to even watch
anymore with the constant pop-ups along with the removal by all
networks of the real end credits. If I am not mistaken, The Waltons
used to air in reruns on WGN out of Chicago back in the 1980's prior
to it shifting to other networks.

As for the Who Shot J.R. record, someone should attempt to release a
CD with all those forgotten songs on it. There was also another record
called J.R. but I can't think of who it was recorded by at the moment.
The CD could be called 'The Forgotten 45's' or something like that and
perhaps include the background info on the recording.

You'll wait forever to get a cd with all the specific obscure songs
you want. It will never happen. It makes more sense to just be a 45
collector and record the songs to your hard drive.

Oh believe me, I know that very well. Just wishful thinking as 99% of
the obscure and forgotten will NEVER EVER appear on CD. A few I'd love
to see released on CD,

Kellee Patterson-If It Don't Fit, Don't Force It--Shady Brook
Chanson-Don't Hold Back--Ariola(perhaps one of the most requested on
CD Ariola releases)
Grey & Hanks-Now I'm Fine--RCA
S.S.O.-Tonight's The Night--Shady Brook
Bryan Adams-Let Me Take You Dancing--A&M(A record Bryan would rather
forget about)
Soul Dog-Soul Dog--Amherst
Cledus Maggard & His Citizens Band The White Knight--Mercury
Gary Clements-Track'r Down b/w When Is A Friend A Friend--Mercury
Chicago Gangsters-I Choose You--Gold Plate(also released on the Red
Coach label earlier)
Turly Richards-You Might Need Somebody--Atlantic
The Younghearts-Don't Crush My World b/wI'm Still Gonna Need You--20th
Century
B.C. Generation-Street Talk--20th Century

and many more.... the S.S.O. song and Soul Dog are most likely
totally forgotten to the realms of time.

Are there any Cowboys around who can ride that Uni out of here?

Who Shot J.R.? lyrics by Gary Burbank With Band McNally with guest
impersonations. I have this on mp3, cool song! Thanks for the
memories.

Why do the people all hate him so
Why they shot him, I'll never know
He's the star of the picture show, J.R.

Besides, he's just trying to get ahead
And, oh, Lord, please tell me
He can't be dead, J.R., not my hero

Like a Texas rattler, he would coil
Molested the women
And stole the cocktail oil
But with two quick shots
He got foiled, J.R.

Stop picking on that man
In the Stetson hat
He's just trying to run a business
Now, what's wrong with that, J.R.

Now, Jock and Miss Elly
They both come to mind
J.R.'s their own son
But they ain't blind

Sue Ellen coulda shot him
That's obvious and all
But she's been drinking again
And she couldn't hit a wall

Bobby and Pam
They have reasons, for sure
But I think both of them
Would just be too pure

That Friday night
He was working late
The night the old boy
Was to meet his fate
There was a lotta hate
In that.38 for J.R.

Some goody two shoes
Done blowed him away
Well, we'll see what them
Hollywood writers have to say
For J.R. (sweet J.R.)

But you can't be sure of his demise
Who knows where the real truth lies
One thing's for sure, we all
Love to despise J.R. (J.R.)

Good old J.R.
Now let's deduce this thing here

Cliff Barnes
He promised to do J.R. in
And so did Vaughn Leland
His banker and ex-friend

Little Lucy's no angel
Like you'd think she'd be
And Alan Beam, he seems
Pretty darn suspicious to me

I wonder if it's Ray
But does he have a reason
We won't know that til
Sometime next season

But if it's a case of jaded love
Kristin coulda done it
That poor soiled dove
She coulda shot J.R. (J.R.)

Now I'll tell you who did it
I know exactly who did it
It was little John, you see
He was a midget and he crawled up
The stairs of that office building
(Don't be silly) it were him

My fellow Americans
I would like to tell you
Who I think it was
I think it Ronald Reagan
Or John Anderson or
John Anderson or Ronald Reagan

Indecision, indecision

No, man, it was Howard Cosell
Cause he was the most hated man
On TV til J.R. came along
It had to be Howard Cosell

Oh, no, my friends, listen to me
I'll tell you who shot J.R.
Woo, hallelujah, it was
Satan or Fred Silverman
I can't wait til September
I gotta know now

Who shot J.R
Was it you, was it you
I know it was somebody
That shot that man

>Chanson-Don't Hold Back--Ariola(perhaps one of the most requested on

I've always liked this one - had hopes it would come out on cd - I've
noticed there seem to be several ariola - ariola american songs that
are all but non-existent on cd. DHB is actually available on a cd
compilation - it's more of a mix disc - I bought it and it serves the
purpose of having the song on cd as best as you get right now, but one
songs leads into the next.

>S.S.O.-Tonight's The Night--Shady Brook

I got this song on a 45 because I try collect all the low charting
songs, especially if I've never heard them. This one didn't really
grab me. A couple of other very low charting songs from the mid 70s

Sun Sun Sun - Jakki

Bye Bye Baby - U.S. 1 - Private Stock
- a strange one - from about 1975 or '76 - sounds almost like they
were still stuck on early 70s bubble gum. I had hear the song through
the Whitburn collection, and was looking for
a copy of the original 45 - non-existent on Ebay, Gemm, everywhere.
I took a trip out to Boston one Saturday about 3 years ago to go to a
record shop called "In Year Ear", unfortunately closed up. They had a
pretty good selection of 45s at a reasonable price, and I was waiting
in line to check out. There was a box of 45s on the counter with no
prices, and I asked the guy if they were for sale, and he said he
didn't think so, but they other guy said they were $3 earch - the
record "Bye Bye Baby" was in there!. I thought I'd never find it -
not the greatest thing ever, but still fun to find the record.
Here is a scan of the record - this may be the only copy in existence
for all I know!
http://mnathan3.angelfire.com/US1.jpg

How about "Like They Say In L.A." by East L.A Carpool

or "Chinese Kung Fu" by Banzaii - that one should have been a much
bigger hit

>Cledus Maggard & His Citizens Band The White Knight--Mercury

This is one I might not have ever heard if I didn't find the original
45, and you really have to play the long version. It takes a couple
of spins to get to like it, but it's probably as good or better than
"Convoy"

thing is, it's the 4:08 version - really need the whole 8 minutes on

Another that I can't recall being on CD is El Bimbo's Bimbo Jet which
I do believe was on the Scepter label...

Can't say that I've heard the song. And, where could this have possibly

it's a bad song, but it is rather mediocre, except for the subject matter.

It was probably on folk or country charts, I don't know. Remember, I
wasn't even sure it was a song! R.W. Stone is actually a pair of
writers named Ron Allen and Steve Asplund. They did another off the

"If You Can't Beat 'Em, Beat 'Em (Tonya's Song)."

I found this little tidbit in a forum (it's about a year old so the email
address may be out of date):

"My name is Ron Allen. I wrote and sang the Harry Truman song and recorded
it with my music partner, Steve Asplund the day after the mountain blew. I
can be reached at: Ral...@stgco.com or you can view the entire song along
with video of the eruption on Youtube.com type in "Harry Truman Song" and
double click on the picture of Harry Truman standing on his front porch with
a bourbon and coke in hand. I hope you enjoy the song which is now 28 years
old."
