"I Saw Her Again" Mamas & Papas

I just heard this on the local oldies station. Since it came out in '66,
I always wondered if that's a blooper in the last verse, "I saw her
a...(then it sounds like it's cut off or spliced), ...I saw her again
last night...).

The story I heard many years ago was that, in singing to the pre-recorded music
track, Denny Dougherty inadvertently came in two measures early, stopped
himself, and then started up again. Rather than "fixing" this mistake, they
decided to leave it in.

I don't know if this has ever been confirmed in print. It's been so long I
don't recall the source of this statement. Anyone know for sure?

BigStar (Ed) elsewhere has it right. It was originally a mistake, but producer
Lou Adler liked it in the studio, so they left it in. I believe there's at
least one amusing video clip of the group doing a lip-sync performance of the
song on a TV show, and they had to duplicate the false start; one of 'em (I
think it was Cass) starts laughing right afterwards. Great bit.

Same thing with The Kingsmen's "Louie Louie," when Jack Ely started a verse
early (about 1:57 into the song). They left that in, too, but then were forced
to recreate the same flub in lip-synced live performances. One of the Dick
Clark videotapes out has the 1965 version of the group doing this outdoors, and
even he chuckles right after he does it.

It's funny if you know it's coming and can point it out to somebody as they
watch the show.

On The Mamas and The Papas--I SAW HER AGAIN LAST NIGHT

This is defnitely the case--it being left in after mistaken. A MUCH better
sounding track of the song can now be heard on DICK BARTLEY PRESENTS
COLLECTOR'S ESSENTIALS - ON THE RADIO Vol 1

the "blooper" is still there but this is the mono / single version and the
voices are SO much more up front and discernible--the string solo is also
deleted

Have never seen the video --if anyone ever knows what that is--let me know It
sounds like a HOOT

Another interesting M&P Blooper is on the MCA CD "Deliver". I was listening to
the song "Did You Ever Want to Cry" on the Headphones and I have heard someone
Licking thier lips before the song started! Its Proably Cass.

The wierd thing is that this CD is one of the Worst sounding CD's of a great
60's album I have in my collection, it sounds like it was mastered from a 8
Track tape. I hoping MCA one day will remaster the last 3 M&P's CD (Mamas
& Papas, Deliver, The Papas & Mamas) again from better source tapes. They did a
great job with the remastering of the first album that they re-released this
year.
