On the country charts Lefty Frizzell is #1 with "If You've Got The

Johnnie Ray reaches the #1 slot with "Cry" taking over from "(It's No)
Sin" by Eddy Howard

DECEMBER 29 1953

On this day Louis Armstrong and his All Stars record their "Basin
Street Blues" number for the film "The Glenn Miller Story".

DECEMBER 29 1955

Barbra Streisand makes her first (private) recording "You'll Never
Know" this day at the age of 13

Louis Jordan & His Tympany Five guest on "The Ed Sullivan Show". Their

In Copenhagen, Denmark,Champion Jack Dupree spends the day recording
12 tracks that will comprise his forthcoming "Champion of the Blues"
album on Atlantic

DECEMBER 29 1960

In New York City,Connie Francis records the Sedaka-Greenfield
composition "Baby Roo", which is issued as a UK-only single by MGM
(the flipside of "Where the Boys Are"). "One Tear Too Many" and "Let
the Rest of the World Go By" from the same session remain unissued
until the 1990's

Also in New York,Johnny Maestro (Of The Crests) does some solo
recording that produces the "Model Girl"/"We've Got To Tell Them"
single for Coed as well as "Warning Voice" and---with the rest of the
Crests this time----"Keep Away From Carol" which stays unissued until
1991

DECEMBER 29 1962

Cliff Richard returns to the UK #1 spot this day when "The Next Time"
deposes Elvis' "Return To Sender"

DECEMBER 29 1963

Much to the chagrin of the disc jockeys at 50,000-watt WABC in New
York, the 5,000-watt blowtorch known as WMCA (with its famed 'Good
Guys') becomes the first New York radio station to play The Beatles "I
Want to Hold Your Hand"

Elsewhere Bobby Darin appears on CBS-TV's Judy Garland Show.

And Hank Williams Jr guests on "The Ed Sullivan Show" singing his
Daddy's songs "Jambalaya","Your Cheatin' Heart" and "Long Gone
Lonesome Blues"
