FINAL RANKINGS - same as Carl

1. Oh, Little One - Jack Scott - 26 (5 first place)
2. Hey Little School Girl - Paragons - 26 (1 first place)
3. You Don't Love Me - Willie Cobbs - 25
4. Ashamed Of Myself - The Midnighters - 23

I did not see this coming but I should have. My Paragons led all the way until the end when Mark's Jack Scott tied it after his ballot had me last, and then it won the tie breaker by virtue of 45 first place votes despite having 4 lasts and one third. Both records were ranked higher on 5 of the 10 ballots. I think it's the first time that a very polarizing entry like this has gone all the way. Jack Scott was 7 points back with 3 ballots remaining, but it was first on all 3 of those ballots for 12 points while the Paragons got 2 thirds and a last for 5 points.

It's a rare month when 5 of the 10 voters are saying "what the fuck?" to themselves. Roger's Cobbs was just one point behind, and we could have had a 3 way tie if Mark had put the Cobbs second and the Midnighters third. Diane's Midnighters was last, although just 3 points behind the winner.

I was all set to say that this was my first win a regular 1947-1963 month in quite a while, but that streak of not winning one of those continues.

Good find, Mark, with the Jack Scott, conratulations.

Diane, don't put your head in the oven!

My Paragons beat the Jack Scott by 2 points in the semis, but once Jim's 5 Keys had been eliminated that made him rank the Jack Scott first in the finals instead of second in the semis, and that started it.

By the way, If I had put my record first I would have won.

One could be tempted to imagine important distinguishing character
traits in the two groups of voters (with the possible exception of
Mark who may have nominated the record more for practical reasons?)

The Jack Scott song has a tense and dreamy aura...

Mr. Moonlight, this month's #2 choice for Dennis, just
about falls into the same category.

Group 1
Bill
Carl
Dennis
Jim
Mark ?

Group 2
Bruce ?
Diane
Rick
Roger
Steve

I'm was surprised as you are since I liked two of my other nominees better,
and I never until recently thought of Jack Scott as such a divisive performer.
Maybe Diane will give him another chance. And since this is only my second
outright win, stop your bellyaching. :)

Thanks to all!

LOL, yeah, you've got a pretty big head!
I thought all along that I had a winner with that Midnighters record,
and I guess you thought you had a winner with Willie Cobbs. Your record
was the only one I was worried about. Better Paragons records than this
have gone down before, and if Jack Scott hadn't been in the same
semi-finals group with Eddie Cochran I still think he would have been
eliminated.
I still can't believe this fucking cornball monstrosity won the month.
Sheesh.

And as I've explained before, I like some records (mostly country, I
think) where JS sings in his own natural, pleasant voice. What I can't
stand is the artificial sound of the fake "manly" low voice he affects
on records like this.

Nope, not for this kind of record.

No way is this about you. I'm glad you won, not happy when one or two
people dominate the contest.

No, Diane, JS is singing naturally the material given to him - nothing
artificial, fake or affected.
